Blocking out light?

I'm trying to find window treatments for the nursery. I'm thinking of going with drapes, but in researching drapes it occurred to me: I have no clue how much I'll want to be blocking out light.

How much have you found that you need to--or how much do you wish you could--block the sunlight coming into your nursery?

Re: Blocking out light?

  • What about roman shades?  They can be expensive, but they work great and are beautiful.  You can totally control the amount of light needed for day time and night time.

  • we have just regular shades you pull - the kind that roll up - they block out a nice amount, but not totally black out- which is how i like it- i don't want them to need it to be super dark to sleep... that way they'll still sleep when we are out and about, etc.
  • we have the roll up shades goldie mentioned...they do the trick. I like to sleep in 100% darkness but i didn't want ds or the twins when they get here to not be able to sleep other places if it isn't dark enough.

initially we had the black out curtains from walmart...reasonable price and quality pretty decent but we switched to blinds because they also help keep some heat out which is helpful because ds and one of the twins room is first morning and it gets so hot!

We use the light blocking shades from One Step Ahead.  They work great and it keeps their room much cooler.  It does take two panels per window though so make sure you get enough.
