Please help! I have a Medela PISA and have been using it regularly for 3 weeks, and my tubes are already moldy. I went to BRU to get new ones and the sales lady told me I was doing something wrong since there is condensation in the tubes every time I pump. Anyone know why this is happening? I cant figure out what I am doing wrong, and I make sure to dry them after each pump.
Re: Why are my BP tubes moldy?
hmm I was thinking you were turning the pump after disconnecting the bottles to dry them out, but you are. I'm curious myself.
I think it's strange it happened so quickly, but it's fairly common to get mold in the tubing. I get condensation in them nearly every time I pump. When I'm done, I let the pump run with only the tubes connected for several minutes to dry them out. I haven't had problems with it in several months since I've been making sure to regularly do that.
FYI - you can call the Medela hotline and they will send you free replacement tubing if you tell them yours are moldy. I didn't know that until recently, but they sent the last set for me no questions asked. They also told me a couple things about killing the mold (boil tubing for 5-10 min) and that it wouldn't hurt to continue using the tubing until my new ones arrived if I boiled them. HTH!
