BFers: How many oz of milk do you give your little one in bottle?

How old is your LO?

How many oz of breast milk do they get when you give them a bottle?

My LO is almost 10 weeks and I'm currently giving her 4oz in a bottle a few times a week. She finished all of it with no problem... Just wondering if she should be getting more... Might try another half oz or so next time and see how she does with it. Just curious as to what others do...

Thanks!

  • My LO is 1 month old and takes 2-4oz of breast milk in a bottle.  He's always been a pretty hearty eater (was nearly 9lbs at birth).

  • I always put 5 oz in the bottle but he usually drinks 4-4.5 oz.

  • My tank of a kid drinks 5 ounces every three hours when she's awake. She has taken 5 ounces since about 6 weeks old.

  • I mostly use the pumped bottles as a tide-over when I can't nurse and give my 3 weeker 2 ounces at a time, although I'm sure she would take more.

  • my 1 month old takes 3 oz when we give her a bottle but my husband insists she wants more.  he tried 3.5 oz but she spit up a bit more and then i felt she wasn't eating as much after when i would BF.  i asked the dr. and she said a baby her size (7lbs) should be getting 1-2 oz. at a feeding but if she'll eat 3 that's fine.  as long as she isn't spitting up a lot after.  you could try giving your baby more and if she spits up a lot after just cut back again.

  • Hi Cara! Usually Noah gets a bottle if he's being crazy fussy at the end of a feeding and doesn't want to nurse any more. He usually takes 1.5 to 2 oz at that time, but if he's getting a bottle in place nursing, he takes 4 oz. I've frozen all my BM so far in mostly 4.5-5 oz increments b/c I suspect by the time he'll be using those, he'll be eating much more than he is now. He's just over 4 weeks at this time.

  • My 8 week old will on average take 4 oz. Sometimes she'll eat less, sometimes she'll want a little more, but I normally just offer her 4 oz and go from there.
  • well i don't have any sort of stash or anything so he just gets whatever i pumped during that session.

we only do 1 bottle a day (sometimes only a few a week) so when DH gives him the bottle i just pump a new one and he gets whatever i pump.  (usually around 3oz, give or take a little depending on the time of day)

  • DS is almost 9 weeks and drinks 4 oz. Sometimes he finishes it with no problem and sometimes he leaves a little so I figure it's a good amount.

  • My pedi told me I should be giving him 4oz at a time - my ds is only 2 and a half weeks old...I didn't think that seemed right....i thought a 2 month old would be eating that....
