Babies: 0 - 3 Months

the EASY routine- if you follow it

We follow this routine most of the times, but some times DD wakes up to eat, eats and goes back to sleep...in middle of the day.

She did that right now.  Should I wake her up? Will this mess with her night time sleep.  she got up from a 2 hour nap, ate for 30 minutes and back to sleep again.

  • I never wake DS up. Sleep begets sleep and if he's tired and I wake him he'll just be cranky.

  • I wouldn't wake a sleeping baby just so you can follow a routine you read in a book. In my experience, a baby makes his/her own "rules". :) Mine prefers to eat, sleep, play, repeat. Although sometimes she'll skip the play part and just go back to sleep. Regardless, she is sleeping 9 hours at night (uninterrupted) so I don't think it's a problem.

  • I am not familiar with the routine you are referring to.  But, I do wake up my LO every 2 or 3 hours if needed to eat and I try to keep him awake a bit as well.  He sleeps 3 and 4 hour stretches at night...I like to think it's because he's getting enough to eat during the day and isn't sleeping too much.

  • I really don't think trying to get a 2 month old on a routine on your terms is the awesomest idea I've ever heard.

  • I don't think there is anything wrong with having a routine for a young baby. A routine is different than a schedule. We follow EASY, but also follow baby's cues. So it ends up being a flexible version. If she wakes up before she needs to eat, I just wait until she's hungry. I guess one of the most important things I take from it at this point is to not feed to sleep (as much as possible).

OMG THIS. Forget the other replies, there is nothing wrong with routines... babies LOVE routines. But be flexible and follow baby's cues. The main point of EASY is so that baby can put herself to sleep and not nurse/eat to sleep, which sets up bad habits down the line... not a biggie now but later it will suck
