Ok I feel clueless...ERF?

I have no idea what you're talking about...We FF LO at 12 months (stuck it out as long as we "could" her legs were seriouslly crammed); I can't say that we "couldn't" find a RF replacement car seat because well we never looked...was under the impression that they FF at 12 m- so please enlighten me?

your child is 5 times safer rear facing than forward facing in a crash. Her legs being crammed is no reason to turn. They learn to bend their knees, hang their legs over the edge or sit with their legs crossed. There has never been a case of a broken leg from ERF, but there have been plenty of serious injuries from FF (including internal decapitation).

The APA recommends rear facing "as long as possible", which depending on your car and your seat, is usually around 2. I turned my DD at 28 months, and will probably do DS similarly. I use a roundabout. A larger seat will not fit rear facing in my car, so once they are out of that, forward they go.
thank you. My head was spinning over the seriously crammed legs. My 2 year old does fine rear facing.
DS weighs almost 21 pounds. Our carseats recommend FF at 30-35 lbs and I'm going to keep him RF as long as possible.
My pedi did too...so, my pedi rocks!
As did mine at 12 and 15 months appt, and it was even on the paperwork they gave me. He said that their practice suggests until 2. He also said that the AAP is revising the 12 months AND 20 lb rule and making it higher. DD is in the 80% percentile for height and weight and we have no plans to turn her. She is 25lbs and 31 inches.
I wish our pedi was pro ERF. She never said anything to me but when my friend at her daughter's 12 month appointment and she was over 20lbs the pedi told her she could turn her FF now
I trust her as a doctor but she is not a car seat safety expert.
Seriously crammed? How tall is your kid?
Mine is 30 inches (or was at 12 month checkup... he's grown since then I swear), and he's no where near to crammed RFing.
My almost 2 1/2 year old is still rear-facing. Our pedi recommended it as well. We were already planning on it though.
