what are the causes of right upper quadrant pain during pregnancy???
it's on the right side under my ribs for like 4-5 days now... at first I thought it was a foot... til I realized both are in the center.
I have severe edema (I'm talking 70lbs worth) and now my face & hands are swelling badly too... huge puffy eyes and lips, etc... now my hands are wicked itchy. like I can't stop scratching.
it's not pre-eclampsia... they checked in L&D last night... I see my doc monday but the pain is driving me crazy... shes not on call this weekend.
also, I suspect I broke my foot the day this started. untreated broken bones wouldn't cause weirdness (swelling/pain) elsewhere, right?
Re: Right upper quadrant pain?
Uhh, you think you may have a broken foot? Don't you think maybe you should get that treated? Given the edema, etc I would probably be calling L&D to check in on the foot, the upper quadrant pain, etc etc.. pregnancy isn't a time to mess around with taking chances.
Good luck - I hope you feel better soon.
I've been wondering that... esp with the WBC count... they gave me anti-b's saying it could be "UTI" (they think everything is UTI when they can't figure out infection source) but I didn't get to the pharmacy yet... I'm half tempted to wait til monday and ask MFM doc since every time someone prescribes anti-b's she tells me not to take them....
they checked my liver last night (looking for pre-e)... would they have automatically checked the gallbladder too??? I didn't even think to ask.
Um, I think she means she thinks the baby's foot is stuck in her rib.
I'm in a wheelchair anyway so it's not like I'm walking on it... I have edema REALLY bad and my foot is already discolored from that so it's hard to tell... I thought I'd give it a couple days. I break a couple bones a year anyway but they can't do much. and there is no way they'd cast it with the edema as bad as it is. I just figured I'd wait til monday when I see my doc since shes not on call.
I went to L&D last night so they could rule out pre-e.
Wow, sorry to hear about all the complications but it sounds sort of routine for you.
Anyway, hang in there... I hope its nothing serious.
yeah, its routine which is why I'm not panicked... but then again I didn't panic when I broke my neck either. oops!
I'm hoping its not serious... the pain is getting really annoying in my guts... I'm ignoring the foot for now. I'm sorta wanting a hotpack or something on my guts but I think you're not supposed to while pregnant - especially on the abdomen, right?
the bone issue always gets social work called cuz they see the history in ER and always think "domestic violence" so its easier to wait and deal with someone who knows me (I have calcium/vit D deficiency) then have to sit around convincing people that my odd story of how I broke whatever is real. not covering for someone abusing me. I'm glad they are careful for those who are being abused... I just tend to have bizarre things occur leading to weird injuries... this time I ran my foot over with a 350lb wheelchair but if I explained HOW I did it, they totally wouldn't believe me... though if I had a video, it would totally win americas funniest home videos.
This. The itchiness on your hand combined with upper right quadrant pain also make me think Cholestasis. I had it with DD and it can have a scary outcome. It's a disorder where bile production/flow is disrupted during pregnancy. Usually comes on in third tri.
I would talk to your dr. ASAP.
Some Sort of Nonsense (My Blog)
the itchiness is coming & going...
it seems like the upper right quadrant pain is worse after eating... would that be typical of gallbladder?
I see the doc in the A.M. if its worse I'll call but my medical history is rather complicated and its a pain to deal with a doc who doesn't know me which is also why I'm trying to wait out the weekend... I'll go to the pharmacy later and get my antiBs filled. I'll take tonights dose, then tomorrow I'll take it only if MFM thinks I should (antiBs seem to be a guarenteed yeast infection for me. bleh)...
