Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Went from 2 hour naps to 30 min - HELP!

I don't know what is going on, but my baby from month 2-4 was a pretty good napper (after finding her thumb and helping her teach herself to fall asleep)...  She went down relatively easily and slept for an hour to two hours... Now it is a total nightmare. She is obviously tired (yawning, rubbing eyes), but she screams everytime I try to put her down and unless I nurse, rock or do something else to soothe her through it she will continue to scream through the whole nap! Help!! Not only that, but when I finally do get her to sleep she only sleeps for a 1/2 hour or so! I have resorted to taking her on car rides or in the stroller  to get her to sleep during the day for more than a 1/2 hour! I feel like I am back at square one and I am SO exhausted, tired and frustrated! Anyone else have this problem?? Do I have to sleep train her all over again? Or is this just a phase?? Do i have to let her cry it out??

  • I can't see how old your LO is, but it sounds like it could be the dreaded 4-month wakeful period, a growth spurt for their brains.  It has caused a majority of us on this board a very difficult time with naps and more!  Do a search for it.  Hang in there, if that's what it is, it is temporary and it will pass.

  • Like pp said, I can't see how old your LO is, but my son started napping like crap when he was teething. For 3 days before his first tooth broke through the skin he napped and slept like crap. He was clearly tired, but like your LO, only slept for 30 min at a time. My normally STTN baby boy was waking up 7-8 times a night.

     Good luck!
