There's a big difference between "hearing" and "seeing" the h/b. There's a good chance you will be able to see a h/b during an u/s, but some Dr's won't use the u/s waves to "hear" the h/b during your first u/s. As far as plainly hearing it via a doppler, everyone's experience varies. Some are as early as 8-9 weeks; I personally have an anterior placenta and was unable to hear mine via a doppler at 11w1d last week. It will be a while before I can hear anything, but an u/s showed a h/b of 170 later that night. Have fun at your appt.!
I heard it with the doppler at 9 weeks but the doctor said a lot of times it's too early to detect it. My 6 week u/s did not show the hb but my 7 week did.
Wow...I haven't had an u/s yet, so I haven't seen my little one, and I didn't hear the heartbeat until almost 14 weeks (at my second appointment). It's an amazing sound.

Ditto pp. My OB tried to hear the hb at 10 weeks and we didn't find anything. We saw the hb at an 8wk u/s. My OB said not to worry 10 weeks is usually too early to hear it via doppler. Hopefully you have better luck!
Today! I just heard it for the first time this evening via doppler. See my ticker, I think I'm 12w3d. He made a big deal of reassuring me that it's often difficult to find right away, but then he found it almost immediately and it sounded so strong! Oh my heart wants to explode when I think of it. So cool. We SAW the hb at 8w5d via ultrasound, but didn't hear

Re: When do you get to hear the heartbeat?
natural m/c and d&c at 10 weeks - 1/24/2014
DX w/ hetero C677t and A1298C MTHFR - 3/4/2014
My 1st ultrasound was at 8w and we saw and heard the heartbeat. I think the heart starts beating around 6 weeks, so you may get lucky and hear too!
We heard the hb at 12 weeks (and each appointment after) and we have our one utlra sound at 20 weeks. Every doctor is different.
