Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Ever seen toddlers at the Melting Pot?

Or is that more of a "no children" restaurant? My mom, sister and nieces are going and want myself and DD to go too. DD does incredibly well and I know she'll be entertained by my nieces but I'm just wondering if people bring their small children to that restaurant.

Re: Ever seen toddlers at the Melting Pot?

  • We brought DS and his bumbo when he was about 4 months old and he fell asleep on the seat. If you go early enough, I don't think you'll get too many side eyes. :)

  • I have not gone with a child yet, but I would most likely not. I just see us putting up to much of a fight for everything (the food sticks). Plus I just think it might be too dangerous with the hot plates/burners etc...

However its been a while so I have no idea. You could always call them and ask.

  • I've never seen kids in there.  I'd be terribly afraid to bring my LO in there.  What's our's is his...and I wouldn't want him thinking that the burner is his to touch.  It's way to close for comfort for me.  IMO

  • I think it depends on the child.  I can take my DD pretty much anywhere for lunch or an early dinner (out of there by 7:30), but with both of them, I stick to pizza and mexican.  It sucks, but it is too hard for me by myself (DH will not eat out with the kids, or should I say he will, but it about as relaxing as a bed of nails.  His expectations are not reasonable and he assumes that anyone looking at us is annoyed, which is totally untrue in my experience.  I have had some lovely dinners with random other people because of DD and DS.    I would totally take him, especially, since you will have a lot of help.
  • I don't think I would take DS, and he is great in restaurants.

The Melting Pot meals last 1.5 to 2 hours, which, even for a child who does well out, is a long time.  I would also worry about the hot food and potential to get burned or hurt.

  • We took DS when he was 6 weeks old and he slept in his carseat the entire time.  Would I take him now?  No way.  There is no way he'd sit through a 2+ hour meal.

  • Let's see ... hot oil and cheese on the table, sharp sticks, 2 hours surrounded by people who are trying to have quiet evenings.Hey, if you think your little one can handle it that's awesome. I wouldn't step foot in the place with DS - for his safety and for common courtesy.
  • Don't think about what "other people" would do...  The real question is whether it will work for you.  Previous posters made some good points for you to consider as you figure it out.
  • OMG NO!!

My kids are great in restaurants.  (Thats what happens when you have a mommy who hates to cook ;)

But, No I wouldn't bring them to the Melting Pot

  • We went with my 1 year old daughter on Mother's Day and she did great.  There were actually a lot of kids there!
  • we went there without her but I think she would have been fine there. She wouldn't be interested in grabbing stuff and we usually spend a long time in restaurants with her- she likes to look around so she'd probably have been really interested in what was going on. That said, I've only been once and it was pretty empty and I didn't see kids there.

  • I would also be concerned about the raw food on the table as well.
