Does your DH do crap like this???

Today was Hayden's 4 month appointment and it was her 1st with the new pedi, so I scheduled it for a Saturday so DH could go with me and meet the doc.  This morning he said he had too much work to on the garage (our house is in a constant state of remodeling) so he couldn't go.  He left at 8 am to go to Menards for supplies.  Fine- no big deal, I'd like to be able to pull my car in the garage one of these days anyways.

Instead of going to Menards, he went to his parents' house where they are having a HUGE garage sale because they are moving at the end of the month.  DH has already spent a significant amount of time over there helping to prepare for this big sale.  It's now 3:30 our time, and he is STILL there.

He just complained to me last night how he is sick of never having time for himself because his family pulls him in so many directions and is constantly asking him for help (he is a very handy guy- he built our house himself- electric, heating, plumbing, you name it).  I don't know if he feels like he needs to be there or if his dad asked him to stay for some crazy reason, but in any case, it ticks me off.  He already works 10-hour days, sometimes even Saturdays and barely sees H, plus he has his own projects that he can't ever get to, not to mention no time with me!

While this is one thing I love about him (his tight-knit family) it is also one of the things that drives me crazy.  How can someone "help" at a garage sale?  Normally the hard part is set-up and clean-up.  I just don't get it...  Obviously this was a big vent, but does your DH ever do things like that?  UGH!!!!

  • Oh- and speaking of her appointment, she now weighs 12 lbs, 4 oz, and is definetely starting to teethe- he recommended the old-fashioned burbon to help with pain!!!

  • I love how your pedi suggested burbon.

My DH is not like this thank god, but I know his mother wants him to be like that.  I am sorry he spent the day there doing the yard sale.

  • Yes! He is always getting off work and then he has to go help his dad with something. Less so since B was born, but also he has been working really long hours so he doesn't have much time to help his dad either. The other night he got home at 9 because he was helping a coworker! I feel your pain sister.
  • My DH is a big Mama's boy and she always has a list for him.  I don't really mind because he's usually really good about only helping her out when I don't need him at home.  Usually we end up staying with her for a weekend and he'll do as much as he can for her while we're there.  It would definitely be annoying if he was always running to help her when he had other obligations.

Have you talked to him about how it is cutting into your family time?

. Sorry don't know why it posted twice!
