PTing question: Toddler doesn't tell when its time

DS has been PTing for about 2 weeks and does pretty well with minimal accidents provided we put him on the potty at regular intervals and watch his body language.  He's also holding his urine for a good amount of time and is keen when he uses the potty.  However, he's not really communicating with us when he has to go verbally nor does he take himself to the potty so if we don't take the initiative, we have an accident.

He's still pretty young but I'd be interested in hearing from those with success stories as to how you overcame this.

    that is one of the main signs I have read over and over again to tell if your LO is ready, the ability to say when they have to go.  sounds like your DS might not be fully ready yet.

    I would hold off for a while a try again. At this point, you are the one that is trained for the potty, not him. My DD is almost two and likes to sit on the potty and occasionally will go. She has no concept of when she has to go so we are waiting. She goes on the potty when she wants to at this point and until she shows true readiness, I'm not going to force it on her.

    You can't really "make" them recognize the urge to go...either they get it, or they don't.  Sounds like your DS doesn't really get it at this point.  Whihc is fine, but really it is you that is PTed, not him.

    When they do get it, it is quick and painless in my experience and that of my friends.  BUT, we all PTed our kids later than you are attempting.  Earliest was about 2y2m, average was 2.5-3 yrs old.  My DD was 2.10 when we trained her and it took 1.5 days and 3 accidents total.
