Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Some people need a reality check!

A guy sees DS at friendly's tonight and this is how the conversation goes:

Him: How old is he, 6 months?

Me: He is 4 months.

H: Wow, big boy! I don't think you weighed that much at 1 year (talking to his 2 year old daughter).

This made me very mad, DS is 15 maybe 16 pounds and about 25-26 inches (we see the doc on monday for his check up). He is by no means a "big boy" and seriously if you took a 1 year old and sat him next to my 4 month old, you would see a huge difference!

Thanks for letting me rant!

  • Aww!  He is a cutie pie!  Just shrug it off!  I get those comments all the time.  Mason weighed 21 pounds at his 6 month check-up.  I get comments all the time that he looks chunky.  It used to bother me for some reason when it all started, but not really anymore.  I know that he's healthy, that's all that counts!

We get this all the time except telling me my 5mo looks the size of a 2mo old...I'm learning to shrug it off.

  • I feel you! I HATE when people make comments about DS.

At his 4 month check-up he was 17 pounds and 26 inches.

  • Ya, I agree with pp, to say a baby is big isn't an insult.  Babies are considered healthy when they're big and chubby!

ETA: DD is big, 90th% for height and weight and people always think she's older than she is.  I won't be insulted until she's like 4 or 5 - then if they're calling her chunky it's a different story  :)

My little (big) guy was the same size at 4 months.  I just say there's more of him to love!

  • was it a small little 1 year old.  DD has a little friend that's 22 months and DD is almost as tall already.  DD was wearing an outfit they passed down to us at 4 months that her DD wore at 1 year!

  • DD is huge.  I have come to accept it.  She is 2 years old and wears a 5T.  I think it is kind of funny now.

  • How rude - we went to Longhorn for lunch Wednesday and as we were leaving there was a group of people we had to walk beside. They all ooo'd and ahhh'd and asked how old he was. When I said 4 months a man said, "Wow he's huge for 4 months!" Then a woman said, "No, he looks so tiny for 4 months!" I actually said, "Well he is under the 5th percentile for weight, so he's actually very tiny for his age." The man then pointed at his 4/5 year old and said, "Well my son was average sized and he was much smaller at that age."

Seriously, how do you remember? I see pictures of DS when he was first born and already can't remember how small he was.
