What medicines/health items do you need at first?

Hi girls! I'm making my final list of things to buy, and never thought about what sort of medicines I'll need to have in. I don't even know if there are any... so were there any things you needed the first few weeks that I may not know about? I have a nasal aspirator and medicine dropper and will be buying a  nail clipper- that's it as far as health care items! Thanks!

  • you actually don't need a nail clipper for a while, in the begining the nails are so soft that you just peel them.

you have a thermometer? If your having a boy and getting a circ you'll need Vasiline and gauze pads. You can get Mylicon and infant tylenol but we didn't need that right away. the nose sucker is what you really need and our hospital gave us two to take home.

  • Mylicon drops, Gripe water (but can't be used until 2 weeks), infant tylenol, but otherwise you don't need much since your having a girl :)

I would say Mylicon gas drops, Gripe Water & Infant Tylenol.

Chiming in on this.  I much prefer the Earth Mama Nipple Butter, and the Medela Soothing Gel Pads (can cut them up into tiny, nipple size pieces so you get ALOT more for your money with them than the Soothie pads).

  • Oh and we did need rubbing alcohol because his stump fell off extra early and we had to use it to dry it out, per the pedi's instructions.  Normally you don't do that though.  You won't use tylonel or anything like that unless absolutely necessary and pedi approved, so I don't know if I'd bother.  You will want some mylicon and gripe water for gas & tummy problems (and maybe hiccups).  Make sure you get the medicine stuff YOU will need too.  I wound up not having any tears and not really needing anything, but you will want lots of pads, witch hazel pads, etc
