I work with two different personal trainers at my gym and have a friend who works as a trainer - they all laughed at me when I mentioned the shoes. I sincerely doubt they do anything noticeable. Better off spending $100 on regular running shoes and using them.

For "toning" my understanding is they do nothing, but they are apparently extremely comfortable and great for posture (my daughter's PT recommended them to me to help stand more in-line due to my scoliosis).
Sorry. I just saw that they removed them from the article. In any event, if I was going to spend $100 on fitness, I think the money would be much better spent on weights or a gym membership.
The first day I wore my fit flops, I could definitely feel it. but, I knew that I was just hitting muscles I don't usually use and it would go away soon. they don't do anything for me now, but they are so comfy. Like wearing gym shoes that are flip flops.
