North Dakota Babies

Spent the evening in L&D

So I went to the doctor yesterday for my regular check-up which included my first internal check and Group B Strep test. While I was there, the doctor noticed Baby H's heartrate was only 118 so she wanted to hook me up to the fetal monitor for a few minutes to see if it would go up. (he has been 130 on the dot at every appointment). Well, they hooked me all up and were explaining the machine to me (i was to hit a button every time I felt him move), when it started registering a contraction. She asked if I was feeling that and I said yes but didn't think anything of it. I get BH contractions often. Well, they kept me hooked up for about 15 minutes and I was having regular contractions every 2-3 minutes ... which is definitely more than usual.

My doctor came and looked at the output from the machine, said baby's heart rate looks great and he is a happy baby with ups and downs in his heart rate which is a very good thing, and as my contractions got stronger, his HR would go up which is good, but I was still having contractions so my doctor wanted to send me over to L&D for further monitoring, to get me lots of water and possibly a shot of Terbutaline to stop the contractions.

So I headed to L&D (across the street), got all set up and my contractions were getting stronger. I wasn't dialated at all and although baby's head is very low, my cervix was still "closed, thick and high". I drank lots of water, got monitored and was still contracting a lot so they gave me a shot of Terb, and things didn't slow down after an hour or so, so they gave me another.  Those shots are painful! But, after that, things calmed down, they monitored me for a while longer and finally sent me home.

They told me to "take it easy" this weekend ... I was like ... uhhh...I have friends coming to town I haven't seen in 2 years, my baby shower and my 3-year old niece's birthday party. So I am working from home today, resting up and going to try to relax as much as I can. Dr. just wants me to make it 1 more week and then she will let my body go as it wishes.

All in all, it was kind of nervewracking because as much as I feel I am so ready to meet my baby, 35 1/2 weeks is too early for my liking and I started to get a little nervous about actually going into labor!
