Would you send a S T D evite for bday party?

I know someone who is having a 1st bday party the same day as DS, August 21st. The mom has already sent out what I am guessing is a pre-invitation by email.

This has me thinking with his party being at the end of summer, should I send out a save the date evite with invitation to follow kind of message..

His party is going to be at our home, and I am only inviting family and closest friends (people who we speak to on a REGULAR basis) We would still be expecting btwn 15-20 kids and about 20 adults.

Would you sendout a save the date evite?

**after I sent the message, I decided that I am not going to do it, if someone can't make it then the just can't**

    Probably not even an evite, but just an email saying something like "I know the summer can be a busy time for families, and with DS's first birthday coming up we want to celebrate!  The party will be on XX at XX.. formal invitation to follow."

    I sent one to grandparents and aunts & uncles just so they are all in the loop. There will be other people invited but I didn't want MIL to get annoyed that she didn't know when it was far enough in advance. Like you said though, if some one can't make it then they can't make it.

    ETA: I sent them an email, not an evite.

    I sent an email to close friends and family letting them know we were planning on having DD's birthday party such and such date. Everyone else just got an invite a month before which was plenty of time I think.
