A friend of mine on facebook just announced her DD peed in the potty. Her daughter just had her first birthday last week and is 6 weeks younger than K.
To me that seems really, really early. Anyone heard of potty training that early?
If you LO is potty trained or in the midst of it, how old did you start?
Re: Potty training at 12 months??
I've heard of some people trying to start that early, however it never pans out for them. One of my friends said her little girl went to the potty very early, but it was a fluck, she never really picked up on it until later.
I agree Lydia, a year seems very young.
Yeah I think that seems early too. Maybe it'll work out for her, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was a fluke.
Kind of related but what age do you usually start potty training? I have heard of so many different things. I have a friend who has a boy and a girl and her girl was completely potty trained by 28 months while her son was almost 3 and a half before he was. I have another friend who has a son that will be 3 in August and they haven't even started with training him.
Too early for me. The earliest I would start would be 15-18 months.
Nate was two when he was potty trained.
I agree it was a fluke.
We started trying at 18 mos and had several failures. I tried again every few months with no luck. It finally clicked right at 2.5 yrs old and we never looked back.

Avery peed on the potty several times a few months ago (not at 12 months). It's hit or miss. I try to encourage her when we can, but I don't stress over it. Since Avery isn't a very verbal communicator - we have taught her the sign for "pee pee" and she uses it well. She does not necessarily indicate after she's gone but she will occassionally let us know if she needs to go. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
I figure there is nothing wrong w/ trying, getting her used to sitting on the potty, going thru the motions at this age. I think one of the biggest obstacles in potty training is getting them used to the potty and overcoming any fears. My nephews were absolutely terrified of the potty and it took months to potty train them because of it.
We tried starting around 26 mos I guess...DS had no interest in the potty whatsoever. They started really getting serious at daycare about potty training I guess about 2 mos ago with lots of kids in his class so we went with it. He is really good about not wetting his pants but he will still poop in his pants if he's outside playing or at the pool. Just fyi...He wears a swimmer still at the pool. I definitely don't feel that comfortable. We did just take him to visit family a few weeks back and he didn't wet his pants all the way home- 2 hours w/ no potty breaks.
I have heard that starting too young will end up resulting in them regressing later.
