I know that some people prefer Buy Buy Baby. There are less BBB locations but the 2 stores have very different selections. It really depends on what items you want. A lot of people also look at Target but I've heard lots of complaints about their difficult return policy so we opted not to use them.
We did BuyBuy Baby and Target. About 90% of it was at BBB. I was nervous about returns at Target because I've heard such bad things, but we went and did all our returns/exchanges today and didn't have any trouble at all. I even had a bunch of things we didn't register for at all and had no receipt but I figured had come from there, and they took them back and gave us a store credit without any questions.
BBB was awesome too, but I knew they would be. They are owned by Bed Bath and Beyond, so their registry works the same and was a very smooth process.
The only complaint I have about Target is the availability of items has changed a bit, so I'm glad we did the majority of things at BBB.
I had registered at Babies R Us and Target when I had my baby last fall- I had no problems with Target at all, even with returns. Any return you have for Babies R US will result in a store credit only, even with a gift receipt.
Since my experience, I have notice a lot of people registering on Amazon.com which I think is a great idea...there is so much to choose from, and sometimes, even more options that Babies R Us.
Re: Where to register
For my first I registered at BRU and Pottery Barn Kids for bedding.
We registered at Babies R Us.
