Maryland Babies

Any of ladies delivering or have delivered at Sinai?

That is the hospital where I will deliver our baby. Just wanted to hear some thoughts on experiences and/or about the classes they offer. TIA

  • I have 2 friends who delivered there.  They both had great experiences.

    Hope that helps!

  • I delivered there in Jan '09. I had a wonderful experience in the mat ward.  L&D I was disappointed because I was hypertensive so they would not let me labor off a monitor (obviously there was nothing I could do about that).  My good friend also delivered at sinai a couple of weeks ago and she went completely natural and was allowed to labor in their tub.

Food is good, nursing staff is awesome!

DH and i took the labor class and found it very helpful.  The teacher was very good and knowledgable.

Are you with Ob/Gyn Associates?  I know those are the "staff" doctors at Sinai.  I love that practice- all the doctors are so great.

  • I am not sure what the practice is called, but my doctor is Dr. Zaft. The other doctors are Minkin, Sounderguard, Feldman and Kates and some others. I love this practice.

    ?

Thanks ladies for you advice and comments!?

  • I'm a patient of Dr. Zaft too.  :)  Dr. Minkin and Dr. Pearlman delivered my baby though.

Honestly, I didn't have the greatest experience at Sinai.   Labor was fine, unfortunately I ended up with an emergency c/s (not their fault) but it was the recovery that I didn't think was that great.  It took forever to get to my room from recovery. DS and I were both running fevers and had to have extra tests run, etc but he was born at 6:30 pm I didn't get to hold him until 10:30 - FOREVER, especially since we are BFing.  I felt like every nurse told me something different when I asked a question and it took forever to get pain meds, so ask before you are in any real pain.

I had a couple of good nurses, but most seemed way too busy and inconsistent...and I had a ton of nursing students.  I understand that a hospital is a 24-hour place, but there were always waking me up in th middle of the "night"  (like I was getting much rest anyway!) with problems that would turn out to be nothing.  They were concerned that DS was looking a little jaundiced, but his tests would come out normal every single time.  But that didn't stop them from waking me at 1 am and 3 am, etc to worry me about it and take him for more tests, which would continue to come back normal.  And then at like 11 pm the night before we were supposed to go home, their pedi said something like "if your baby is healthy enough to go home with you tomorrow"...um, what?  My baby was perfectly healthy according to every test they ran!  Why would he not be healthy enough to go home with me?  Argh, I am obviously still frustrated over this, sorry for the long vent!

Positives - great LCs!  They were seriously wonderful and helped me so much.  Good food!   And I liked most of the doctors in the practice!

We just did the hospital tour - it went great and I felt like I knew what to expect during labor and delivery.

  • I delivered there in Sept of last year.  I had a very good experience (I even sent thank you cards to the nurses and doc) and if I have another child I will deliver there again.  The L & D nurses I had were very nice and tended to my needs.  The post delivery nurses I had were very nice too.

Dr. Minkin's wife Karen Minkin was one of my nurses and I LOVED her.  Dr. Pearlman delivered my baby.  I can't say enough about this practice.  I have been with them for years.  Good luck at Sinai.  :)

Oh, I didn't like the food really.  Thats it.
