Doppler?

Did any of you buy a doppler?  Was it worth it?

Re: Doppler?

  • I am have my cousins that she lent me.  Honestly, I tried to find the heart beat once at like 26ish weeks and had no luck and have not tried since.

I wanted it earlier when I was still afraid, but am sort of glad since I can't find it now that it is big in there, I would have been so stressed earlier.

  • I borrowed one at the beginning but couldn't find the HB at home until like 14 weeks bc the baby was so small and never stayed in the same place. By the time I would have been able to find it consistently, I could feel the baby moving enough that I didn't really need the reassurance.

So, I could really take it or leave it. I only tried once a week when it was early because I never wanted to get stressed about not finding it. It worked, but I was fairly low stress in the beginning anyhow.

  • i didn't buy one because I was too afraid if I didn't find a heartbeat that I would panic myself to death, and my doctor would have killed me!

This.  It was hard enough to believe that there was a real live baby in there until about two weeks ago when I started feeling movement.  If I had used a doppler and not heard the heartbeat, I would have totally stressed.

  • IMHO, waste of $.  To me, that is what the doc is for.
  • I never even thought about it.  I would have driven myself crazy if I had one at home.  If I couldn't find the HB, I would have convinced myself that something was wrong and if I could have found it, I would have been listening to it all night.
  • I never bought one.  But all my friends that are nurses had a jolly good time giving me OJ and trying to find the heartbeat or hear kicks with the stethescope when I was farther along.

My friend bought one, and like the other girls, couldn't find that heartbeat and it stressed her out.  She used it once and never again.

Ooo.... Good idea!  I'll have to remind my mom to bring her stethoscope up when she comes so she can hear the heartbeat.  I'm sure it will bring back memories of her days in nursing school.  That's probably the last time she heard a baby's heartbeat since she doesn't work ER, L&D, or Peds.
