What were your other choices for your child's name other than what you named them?
Did you have a list going in?
For DS, we had a very short list of names we liked. DS could have been Eric or Nathan. For DD, I had no clue what we should have named her. DH really wanted Paige.
Re: Naming your child - what other names were on your list?
Alex (11/14/06) and Nate (5/25/10)
"Want what you have, do what you can, be who you are." - Rev. Forrest Church

Harrison Edward (butterbeans name! this was on our first list when we had DD)
Jackson Edward
Audrey Suzanne (combo of our mom's names)
Simone Kennedy (Kennedy is a family name)
Claire Kennedy
Kennedy Moorea (our favorite island)
DD = Pascale
DS = Langston
Christmas 2011
Let's see...I don't remember much about the list for Rory. We had picked Cohen for sure if she'd been a boy. The middle name was not decided, though. She was going to be a Lily up until about 2 weeks before she was born, which is when we saw Rory and changed our minds. Jean was always going to be her middle name no matter what.
For Cohen, we really argued on this one. My husband had a long list and changed his favorite every other day. I was stuck on Cohen from day one. Obviously, I won that argument!
Other names we both really liked, though were Henry, Rowan, and Caleb. I still love all of those, but I loved Cohen the best.
We didn't know the sex prior to birth either time, and we had girls twice. We were totally settled on the boy's name both times (1-Owen and 2-Aidan) but had a list both times for girls. For DD#1, we settled on Erin Noelle, but also had Annalise and Anna. For #2, we were deciding between Annalise, Amanda, and Keira. It took 24 hours to name her and a lot of back and forth, but we landed on Keira. I still have some regrets that neither one is Annalise, but DH wasn't loving it either time.
We always had a list. I just could not name a child I hadn't met yet!!!
DD is Heather, but we also considered Rachel (which has become very popular among our friends so it is now off the list for this one)
DS is Andrew, but we also considered William and Matthew. William is still in the running, but I have gone off of Matthew due to a devil child I taught this year!!!
Middle names were always family names and didn't change.
With DD we didn't know so we had a boy & girl list, about 8 names on each. Alexandra was on the list, don't remember the rest.
With DS we accidentally found out so we went w/a boy list, but really liked Jacob Riley. Met him and decided that wasn't his name. He was Aaron for a day. Again nope. At 3days old we finally decided he was a Bryan Douglas, which means "Strong/noble, from the dark waters".
Alexander, Nathaniel, Timothy, Ethan....
I have b/g twins. Our other girl name was Charlotte (we never got a middle name) and our other boy's name was Parker Reed.
If we had anymore children, I'd want Vaughn for a boy and Genevieve for a girl.
Malia was our only girl name we picked for M ... made it very easy! If she had been a boy I think we liked Cole or Gavin.
Ethan we struggled with ... we finally decided on a girl name Paige Elizabeth (someone really needs to use it b/c I'm still in love with it!) but for boys we were debating between Gavin, Collin and Lucas. I had always considered Ethan but never suggested it b/c I think anything I did suggest, dh wasn't going to agree to!
So, one day dh comes home with this brilliant name of Ethan (only in the top 3 of most popular names) and the rest is history! Oh and E is so not a Gavin or Collin!
"
Ethan {1.11.10} & Malia {12.28.06}
DH had originally wanted to name her Lauren Paige. I wanted always wanted an Olivia, but it was so popular. We both really wanted Madelyn, but had a friend with a dd Madelyn so neither suggested it. Once I finally did it was settled.
If she was a boy dh wanted Evan Maddow and I wanted Evan John.
for DS #1 I really liked Jackson, Gavin, and Mason, Mason being my favorite.. the middle name was going to be Charles no matter what. DH X'ed all three of the names, after 18 hours of labor i had a c-section and we found out it was a boy, DH left me have Mason :-D If he had been a girl 99 % sure Ella would of been the name
DS#2 I like Landon and Cohen, again DH didn't say much and didn't seem to care for either name. the middle name was either going to be David or Eugene. I had a repeat C and we agreed while i was getting prepped that if baby was a boy his name would be Landon David
DD's other choices: Grace, Faith and Jackson or Andrew for a boy
DS's other choices: Andrew, Anderson, Henry, Miles. I also really like Jace, but that was nixed. If he was a girl: Charlotte, Annalise, Eliana, Grace
Henry was named William until right before he was born. Other contenders were Edward, Thomas, and Nathaniel. I REALLY wanted Emmet or Elliot but my DH hated them
For a girl, he would have been Amelia. Now I don't think I would use it...other girl names we considered were Margaret, Caroline, Catherine, and Lilian.
For Noah, we considered Ethan, Jake, and Jack.
For Maren, we considered mostly Alaina and Tatum. There were others too, but those were the front runners.
If DS1 would've been a girl, he would've been Gracyn. If DS2 would've been a girl, he would've been Addison Paige.
We really couldn't agree on any other boy names for either of them (DS1 is Kaden and DS2 will be Dawson).
Kaden William 11/4/06 and Dawson Michael 6/30/10
Dawson's first birthday - at the zoo
We knew that the girls were girls via the 20w u/s. Ava was always Ava. Ella we waited till she was born and she was actually Olivia for about 12 hours, but then we changed it to Ella with her middle name being Olivia.
We were team green with Drew. We liked Madalynn for a girl and we had a list of boy names. MH liked Gavin and I liked Tyler and Parker. We could pick one. Ava came into visit the next day and we asked her what his name should be - she said Drew and we both felt it fit him perfect so that's hat we went with
{Ava 5.16.06} {Ella 12.29.07} {Drew 2.9.10}
If Jackson was a girl, he was going to be Emma Caroline. The only first name for a boy we considered was Jackson. His middle name was up in the air - either Thomas (my great grandfather), Donald (my grandfather) or Henry (MH's grandfather). Those were the only names on our list and we agreed on them from the beginning.
For Scarlett, if she was a boy she was going to be Robert. Other names on our list were Blackford (MH's choice) and Finnian (my choice). Middle name was going to be McLaughlin or Robert if we didn't go with Robert as the first name. She, however, was always going to be Scarlett since it's the only name we can agree on. Middle name was sort of up in the air, but as part of me giving into Scarlett (I wanted to use it as a middle name), I got exclusive naming rights for the middle name.
Keira Evelyn was set from pretty early on.
Elliana Michelle was a late decision...we had settled on a boy name (didn't know the sex until she was born) but kept tossing around girl names until I found Elliana on a website, and we both liked it. I liked Raina Elizabeth more, and DH preferred Elliana, but we both liked them both...so we decided that if it was a girl and she was born in an odd minute (i.e. 5:05) he could pick, and if it was an even minute (i.e. 5:06) I could pick. It ended up being my choice, but I chose Elliana because our family/friends seemed to hate Raina. If we ever have another girl, though, I'm using that name, dammit!

With DS, the other boy names were Kannon, Davis, Max, and Christian, but we went with Owen. Had he been a girl, we were talking about Kaia, but that's the only one I can remember.
With DD, Alexandra, Emerson, and Cameron were on the list. I tried for Jillian on the way to the hospital, but he didn't like it. We ended up naming her several hours after she was born, Cameron Alexandra. If she had been a boy, Kannon, Davis, and Max were on the list.
We didn't know with either an dprobably won't find out with this one. DD1 was either going to be Lorelei or Abigail but really was leaning more towards Lorelei all along. Boy would have been Adam James.
With DD2 I was so sure I was having a boy we never decided on a girls name. We knew boy was Adam James and it was between Abigail and Sydney for a girl. I was in labor and still didn't know what to nam e agirl if we had one and our nurse was named Abigail. We thought is was a sign and then when we saw Abby we knew the name fit perfectly.
So I have no feeling either way yet on this baby. Again boys name is decided (same AJ) but we are totally stuck on a girls name. I am loving Fionna and Siobhan, but DH says no to both. Chole is another name I like and Sydney, too. DH is saying Sydney. I like Paige, too and see it is pretty popular. We have a some time so who knows. This one may just be a boy.
DD1 (Layla) was very close to being a Lucy. Audrey, Cora, Lane (family name) were further down the list and Mary Faith was discussed.
DD2 (Brynn) was going to be Mia or Maya, depending on which name we liked best for her twin brother (DS- Cale), but we only considered Boston or Cale for him. We didn't like Maya with either of those. So the twins were either going to be Boston and Mia or Brynn and Cale and he just didn't look like a Boston, at all. So... Brynn and Cale they are!
DD might have been Evangeline but I was afraid the name was too long. Hmm maybe one day.
If she was a boy we like Isaac, David and Ethan.
