Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Dog owners (especially any Boxer owners out there)

Good Morning Ladies- congrats to all of you on your lil sunshines:)

I am wondering how your doggies have done since bringing home baby?  I have an almost 3 year old Boxer who is the sweetest thing- but the lickingest damn dog (not to mention always wants to be right next to me)- and I am wondering how he will do with my lil girl.

TIA

  • I have a 1 yo boxer and she is super concerned whenever DS cries and tries to sniff him all the time but we just give her boundries and she's doing just fine!

We have two dogs, a Doberman (male - 3 yrs) and a Pit Bull Mix (Female 2yrs).  The female has always been attached to my hip and I was nervous that she was going to be jealous.  When DS came home everything worked out perfectly we just made sure both dogs were involved with the baby as much as possible.  She will lay next to me on the couch and kiss his feet, hands basically anything she can get of him.  I just make sure to wipe him off but I don't make her feel like she cannot be near him because that is when I think she will be jealous.  She is like a four legged mom :)  Good luck
  • We let her sniff up to a certain point just so she is content then we tell her no and she drops off. She's still in puppy stage so she gets extremely wound up sometimes and we have to put her on the screened patio and take her for a walk to calm down. Honestly, LO is 2 weeks 2 days now and she hardly tries to sniff him anymore, like it was just a passing curiosity. She's not a big kicker though so she's never tried to lick him. Funny enough she's trying to lick DH's skinned up knees from softball though! We also have a beagle who keeps boxer in check! Lol

  • I have a 5 yr old Boxer and a Pug and they both seem to like DD. The pug likes to lick her and the Boxer sniffs her. Honestly since my baby has arrived my dogs have been acting out. The day I went into labor we came home to poop and pee all over our basement - My boxer did that since we kennel the pug. Also my boxer got into the trash in which she NEVER has done in her life!

Since then my Boxer has misbehaved a couple more times but now we have to kennel her or lock her up because we can't trust her. She has made mistakes in the house that she never did as a puppy so it's really weird. She is not really yet a senior pet so it's not like she is old enough to be incontinent. I am frustrated with them because with a 2 month old that was colicky it was so hard to handle just the baby that I really could have used some well behaved dogs.

  • We have a 1 1/2 yr boxer and she is doing great with DD. My DH brought the blanket from the hospital before we came home and for the first few weeks she used to sleep with it in her bed.

She is always trying to sniff the baby and when DD cries she gets a little overwhelmed and keeps walking around us when we are calming the baby.

She licks everything and everyone and that is where we put the boundaries, she is not allowed to lick the baby's face or hands but once in a while we let her lick her feet.

  • We have a 3 year old boxer and were a little bit worried because he can get really crazy and run around the house like a mad man at times.  He has been really good.  He does love to come up and sniff her but has never had one of his crazy moments around her.

I do think he's a bit jealous.  He was our baby before Lily came along.  However, he's doing great.  He's calmed down a lot.

  • My golden retriever has been living with my parents for a while. They also have a sheltie. We are over there often, several times a week. I wasn't worried at all about Lucy, the golden. We were a little concerned about Emma, the sheltie, b/c she is weird around new people and other animals. Well Emma completely surprised us. She LOVES DS. She is VERY licky though. Licks everything. She goes for his feet, hands, face, anything she can get to. Other than the licking she is doing great. No concerns. Lucy is doing fine. She is just jealous. Sometimes when the baby gets more attention she will go and pout. She loves him too though. They are doing well over all. Hope your boxer does good too!

  • We have a 1 yo boxer and she's constantly licking him and going after his pacifier. She is always wanting to be next to him and touching him. If we leave soemthing of his out where she can get it she tries. But she's also very protective of him too.
  • We have 2 boxers and they def love to lick! When we brought the baby home our boy boxer was a lil hyper and curious and our girl boxer was instantly protective. They try to lick occassionally but have been really good. They get very anxious when baby cries.
  • We have two boxers. Our female is 6 and our male is 4 and a half.

They were very excited, anxious and curious when LO came home. Despite their training they were all over trying to get close to check out DD. As soon as we could we started walks with all of us so they learned that she is now part of our pack. Within a week they calmed considerably.

As I got more comfortable I let them get closer to smell her. Now they pay zero attention when she's in her swing (they used to try to get in her face) and know to stay off of her blanket or play mat when she's on the floor. (But if she's making noises they sit right on the edge of it to guard her.) They've actually done really well with the licking and really don't try anymore.

We did a lot of training when I was pregnant to make they'd follow commands I yell out.
