Sitting in the Backseat

Do you sit in the backseat with your LO when someone else is driving and if so, how long do you plan to? I'm asking because none of my friends do and I love sitting in the back with my LO.

Re: Sitting in the Backseat

  • Normally,no. But yesterday I took LO out with a girlfriend, and he screamed his head off the whole way. On the way back, I decided to sit in the back to see if I could soothe him. Of course he was completely content by then, lol.

  • I do right now, but DH is doing all the driving since I'm still in my 2-week no-drive time. I'll probably stop unless we're on a long trip.
  • The only time I do it is when we are on a long 3+ hour car trip and they are crying. Other than that, no. I prefer to sit up front with my husband :)

I did on the ride home from the hospital and threw a somewhat drunken DH back there one night on the way home from a wedding when she was fussing (they both fell asleep).

Otherwise, she's alone in the back.

  • I haven't sat I. Tbe back sincwe thwe ride home from the hospital,

  • Back when she hated the car seat, we did.

Now, we don't. If she starts screaming though we'll pull over and one of us will jump back there with her. that doesn't happen much anymore.

  • Since I'm usually in the car with both of the kiddo's I normally don't. But, when I just had my toddler (and she was an infant) I would sit in the back with her...I loved watching her react to the car lol.
  • I am not opposed to one of us sitting in the back. It all just depends on his temperment and length of the trip.
  • nope, he sits back there alone and is perfectly fine.  he really loves the car & his seat.  i think if he didn't i probably would though.

  • I did when it was just DS b/c he had really bad AR and would scream in the car.  So I would sit back there and help calm him down.

Now that we have 2, no.

I don't do it all of the time, but if he is really having a meltdown, we'll pull over and I'll get back there with him.

  • I did for the first 3 weeks or so.  Our car seat, although installed correctly, wasn't tilted back very far and I was worried about her head falling forward and preventing her from breathing.  Now I only sit back there with her if she is hating the car ride.

  • I do because most of the time she hates it so I try to soothe her.

  • I did with DD for probably 4 months. I was SO afraid she would start crying.

with DS I don't. There isn't enough room in the back for me and 2 carseats.

  • I did for the first couple days.  She likes the carseat though, so I stopped.  It's pretty crammed back there and uncomfy.
  • i do because i have a teeny car and the passenger seat is had to be put waaay up so her seat could be installed properly. it's just not comfy up there anymore.
  • I do.  I love reading to him, playing with a rattle, etc.-its just great play time.  He usually falls asleep after a while, but at least I'm there to soothe him.  If he is by himself back there because I'm driving by myself, he always winds up crying half way through the trip and I have to pull over to find his paci that he has dropped.  Hate that.

Only when she's really upset. This usually happens when a trip impedes with her "feeding sxhedule".

    THIS

  • Just on the way home from the hospital with DD1. Now that there are two car seats, it wouldn't be possible even if I wanted to.

    same here!

  • We had to sometimes in the begining but now that DS likes rattles and such I'll just shake one infront of his face to distract him.
