I was wondering the same thing when I read the story. Apparently her brother did the same tour at 17, so Im not really sure what to think of these parents.
NEVER would I EVER let my (phantom) 16 year old do something like that! People are CRAZY!! Although, when I was 9, my mom let me fly by myself from ATL to south carolina to meet my grandmother. The only time I was alone was during the flight though.

I don't take one single minute for granted.
When I was 14 I flew to Europe by myself for the first time. While I was over there I got in trouble because I met up with a 12 year old who was also flying alone and we were playing on the escalators in the Amsterdam airport when we weren't supposed to. Ha. I remember getting escorted to my flight after that.
During that same trip, a cousin of mine and I also traveled by train across Norway by ourselves to visit Bergen. But, that was Scandinavia... completely safe. I would feel comfortable letting Kennedy do that when she's a teenager.
Still, I think sailing ALONE around the world is crazy. I can't believe her parents let her do that. I pray that she's still alive.

When I first saw this post, I thought it was about the Australian who was 16 and already completed her journey recently-I can't believe there were TWO 16 year olds doing that at the same time!
