Feeling attractive w/ new born

How long after having your LO did you start to feel attractive again?  I've had my moments of feeling put together and pretty, but more often then not I feel as though I look like a mom.  kwim?  Most days my hair gets put up and I'm in jeans and a shirt that will allow me to whip out my boobs whenever LO is hungry.  I've used a blow drier twice since LO arrived and have only done full makeup a handful of times.  Any tips on how to get past this?

  • Do something nice for yourself. Pedicure and get out of the house.

When you have some energy pamper yourself just a bit.

    Just hang in there

  • For me, it was getting dressed first thing in the morning, before I could even think about putting on the "same old" lounging clothes. I tried to dress up as much as possible. I understand the nursing thing, totally. I would wear a nursing tank but with a cute cardigan or argyle sweater over it. <blushing>... DH was totally obsessed with how big my boobs got so wearing something low cut/fitting on top would make me feel attractive. Also, as it got warmer I made sure to put on a dress or a skirt every day. It definitely made me feel more feminine.

  • I felt like it got better for me when I went back to work and had to get dressed for work every day and put in my contacts rather than my baby "uniform" and glasses.

  • Oh - and I completely hear ya on the "whipping out boobs" shirts.  I remember saying to DH once that I felt normal, pretty and special when I went somewhere and went "crazy" and "rebelled" and put on a shirt that didn't have a single zipper, clip, snap, button, or drawstring on it!  lol

    It felt awesome!

  • I haven't felt attractive since my third trimester with Evan - so July of '08. I can't wait until I'm done breastfeeding so I can go one a HUGE diet and exercise routine.
  • Yes, for me it was going back to work at 8 weeks.  But even on my days off it became better.  So really I think it was getting LO into a schedule.  (We did the eat-sleep-play routine).  And then once she started STTN (around 5.5 months for us, but hopefully sooner for you!) I really felt back to normal.
  • I have my days but they aren't very often.  I've pretty much felt like a frump since I had Dylan. I lost my tummy and stretch marks a lot sooner with my first son.  It's been a lot different with my second.  I still have that pregnant belly and the stretch marks have definitely faded but I'd NEVER be able to wear a bikini.  Going to work helps though because I'm forced to get myself ready.

  • I think as soon as I was functioning somewhat normally I started dressing and doing my makeup/hair everyday-even if I didn't leave the house. To me, it made me feel more normal and human!  I never got into the sweatpants/tshirts at all-just wore jeans or something so I didn't feel too frumpy.
  • I felt better when I could finally wear pants with a zipper.  I know, it sounds ridiculous.  Even now I don't feel like I used to about myself and my body, I just need some time to get back to the gym and eating better always helps me.

  • I'm still struggling with this even though I've been back to work for 3 weeks.   I'm still in maternity pants and I wear nursing tanks everyday (I pump at work).  As you have seen from my posts we are trying to eat better and I have a spa day tomorrow so I'm hoping that will help.  Hang in there!

  • What helped me was getting out of maternity pants (which I stayed in a long time) and getting my hair cut and highlighted.

  • I'm just starting to feel this way again but I think my level of attractiveness is tied to how much sleep I get...and since L is sleeping better- I 'm feeling better and I, too, have started showering right after his first bottle so I at least get that in...

My worst month was the third one..but after that it got easier

I still just pull my hair back and rock the yoga pants but you know I make yoga pants sexy ;-)

  • Thanks for making me feel normal :-)   I only wear 'house clothes' all day maybe once or twice a week depending on what I have going on.  Jelly Bean and I usually leave the house every day.  Even if it's just an errand to the store or a neighborhood walk.  I've been back in regular jeans since about my second week post-partum (although I'll wear my maternity jeans if my regulars in the wash).  It sounds like the biggest hurdle is just getting into a regular schedule.  We're trying - we really are!

And Mrsoc - I totally agree about the haircut and color.  I've been dying to get my hair done!  Maybe I'll try to do it on my vacation since I'll have my mom to watch the LO.

    Thanks!
