Should I have woken her up?

I told yas like three weeks ago that Mari started sleeping through the night.

Well, it's getting better and better.  Most nights its 6+ hours straight, snack, then back to sleep for another 3 or so hours.  But lately it's more like 8 hours, snack, then back to sleep for a few.

Last night she slept from 10:15 - 8:15 this morning!!  Woooo!!!

Should I be waking her up and feeding her after like 6 or so hours??  Or am I just over-thinking this?

Re: Should I have woken her up?

  • No, only if she were underweight would a doctor typically recommend this. I was told that once they are back up to their birth weight not to wake them to feed. Let her sleep!! :)

  • Ok, thanks, Kim!

And by the way, I did read your reply to my post the other day.  Luckily, I am feeling better - as always, I appreciate your input =)  That boob is still a bit sore, but getting better every day.

  • I was just reading about this yesterday as I have started trying to educate myself about breastfeeding and such. And it said the same thing Kim said. It pretty much said once they are a few weeks old and back to their birth weight, they will tell you when they are hungry and there is no need to wake them to feed.

Enjoy those long sleep cycles and get some rest!

I agree to some extent (see below).....In your case Cristina I agree w/ the above.

But when S had jaundice, that was a completely different story.  She was back to her birth weight by day 5 but could sleep for hours on end due to jaundice, which apparently makes them sleepy.  I was told to continue nursing her every 2 hours--UGHH!!

  • I read to never wake a sleeping baby!  (As long as they are gaining weight appropriately as PP mentioned).  One time B slept for 10 hours!  Only once though, but it sure was nice.
  • Let the girl sleep!!! I am so jealous!!!!
