**Weekly Lovenox Ladies Check-in**

**So sorry there was no check-in last week.  I wan't able to create a post due to the "account verification" notices - boo!**

Hi Everyone,

Its time again for our weekly check-in.  This check-in is for anyone dealing with clotting disorders, or for anyone doing once or twice daily shots of Lovenox, Heparin, Fragmin, etc. (you are also welcome if you are on any other blood thinners - coumadin, aspirin, etc.)  This is a place for us to share our frustrations, worries and triumphs.  What?s new this week?  How is everyone feeling?  How are your bruises?  Any injection tips for the newbies?

QOTW:  If you have had a DVT, what risk factors did you have when it formed (age, pregnancy, bc, sedentary, etc)?

  • QOTW:  I've never had a DVT...

Update on me:  We are having a baby boy!!  My EDD got moved up to 10/30 as well.  I have another appointment tomorrow morning to go over the big u/s results, but other than that, things are going great.

Our big u/s was a turning point for me - ever since that day I have felt this little guy move so much!  So amazing!

  • My bruising is so much better with the switch to Arixtra.  Woo hoo!  Otherwise, no real update from me.

QOTW:  I had a DVT while on BCP at age 32.  I had been on and off the pill since age 18 so I don't know why it happened when it did.

  • Hi All,

It's so weird to see my name at the top of the EDD list now!  :)  At the last growth ultrasound, the baby surprised us and jumped up to the 16th percentile, so we were able to cancel the induction that was scheduled for yesterday.  We're taking it day by day for now, although my doctor won't allow me to go past my due date due to the heparin and the placenta issues.  I have another NST and internal exam tomorrow so we'll see where we stand after that!

QOTW:   Fortunately, I've never had a DVT.  After I was diagnosed with FVL, I told my doctor I had been on hormonal birth control pills for 10 years with no clotting, and he just said I was very, very lucky.  Almost everyone on my dad's side of the family has had serious DVT's, so I'm fortunate that I was checked when I was.

  • QOTW: Never had a DVT.  Although I do worry about a large bruise that I got on my thigh over a year ago that has never fully healed.  The doctor is just watching it for now.

Nausea is starting to become a permanent fixture for me now.  I've been teaching this week and have 1 more class to survive.  Then almost a week in San Diego for a conference.  And finally my first appt / u/s the following Tuesday.  Just trying to keep my mind occupied until then.

In excellent news, no bruising in a week!  I still have an issue though where I cannot make myself do it if someone/something else is in the room.  DH doesn't understand that because he wants to be there to support me, but if he's there it's easier to just make him do it.  I don't want to do that too often though because I need to be confident enough to do this alone wherever I am.  With traveling next week I'm going to have to do it in an airport once because of my long travel schedule and time zone changes.

Anyone ever had to give one to yourself somewhere other than lying on a bed?

Can I be added? EDD is 9/24 and I've got MTHFR.

QOTW: I've never had a DVT.

Update: Have a monthly appointment, fluid level check, appointment with Peri, and GTT next Wednesday. Hooray!

I've injected in my car while on a road trip, I just reclined a bit and it wasn't an issue. Good luck!

  • Can you add me to the list too please?  I have FVL.

QOTW:  I had a small clot in the femoral artery, but it was due to a procedure I just had done and was not allowed to move for a few hours afterward (and the hospital didn't give me any prophylatic blood thinners even knowing I had FVL).  I then sat in the car the next day for a 4 hour ride home.  It happened 2 years ago when I was 27.  Something I would like to never repeat!

  • QOTW: I have never had a DVT thankfully!

2 weeks from tomorrow I start my heparin shots. I am going to ice up before doing them thanks to the info on this board!

  • Please add me to the list as well. My EDD 9/14 deliverly will happen we before.

I have Factor V Lieden homozygous and Lupus Anticoagulant Antibodies. I tested  postive to both of these a few weeks ago. My Peri put me on Heraprin 3x day. I started at 5,000 units 2cc now I am up to 15,000 units 3cc and my blood levels are coming back bad so I am probably going to be up to 25,000 units of Herparin. My brusing is beyond bad and painful. I am 26 wks. Does this seem high to anyone? I know Heparin can not cross into the Placenta but, I am still nervous. My last pregnancy was horrible. I delivered at 34 wks 3lb daughter. I suffered from bad PC... I go back to my Peri for a growth scan. Hoping the Herparin has not caused any problems with my baby's growth. Any comments, tips would be so appreciated:)

  • Can I answer if I just came back to lurk even though I had DD 7 months ago? : )

I had homozygous FVL. A DVT with absolutely no risk factors is what led me to find out I had FVL. My Dr thought I was crazy when I asked her if I could get a dopplar done because I'd been having calf pain (no swelling, redness, or warmth to the touch). I think the only reason she obliged me is because I'm a nurse.

Shockingly to her I was right, I had 2 DVT's in that calf. They blamed it on BCP's but an OB I worked with informed me that you wouldn't get a DVT from BCP's alone. So since I had no other risk factors involved he suggested I have some testing done. Been on coumadin (lovenox when ttc/pregnant) ever since and will continue that forever.

  • Thanks for adding me!

QOTD: I've never had a DVT. My PE was most likely caused by a car accident (broken femur, among other injuries) but didn't have any other known risk factors. Just to be on the safe side, since I knew pregnancy was such a risk factor in and of itself and becasue my body had already created a PE once, before we started TTC this time I asked my doc to run bloodwork for clotting disorders, which is when he found the MTHFR.

  • I haven't had a DVT, but my 30-year old healthy brother had an unexplained one a few years back, which is how we found the clotting disorder.

Thankfully, I was only on BCP for a couple of months, but I hated it and stopped.

And as far as giving shots other places - sure - the car, the bathroom at a restaurant or bookstore or whatever.  My OB puts me on 40 mg twice a day in the third trimester, which means 7 AM and 7 PM, so if we want to go out and do anything in the evening, I bring a shot and duck away to do it.  My least favorite place is the public restroom.  Ew.
