Re: I grew up w/no cable TV

  • Did you have basic tv or no tv period?
  • Loading the player...
  • lol yeah me too. My parents didn't get cable until I was 22, when I married dh we didn't have cable at first either and went 2 years w/o it. I actually liked it better then, we got more done. Now it's too easy to find some crappy show on rather than do a puzzle or something. Ugh.
  • We didn't have cable either, until I was in my early teens. Before that, we had CBS, NBC, and fuzzy versions of ABC, PBS, and later Fox. We were outside all the time anyway, or maybe because of that!

You're right though- STILL nothing on TV!

  • We got cable when I was a teenager. We didn't have A/C until I was almost 20.

  • I was only allowed 1 hr a week!
  • I didn't have cable tv until I got married last year at 36!  Just had the 5 channels that came in through the antenna.

And I agree with you about nothing good being on.

  • I grew up without cable as well, now my parents have just about every channel that exist.  DH and I don't have cable right now, when we had it we never watched it so we couldn't justify the cost any more.  Plus when we are home we spend a lot more time talking.
  • we didn't have cable until i was a junior in high school.  and for about 5 years when I was growing up we didnt have any tv at all.  well we did and we didnt, this sounds silly, but it was in a locked room off of the garage and we would only use it to watch japanese television on saturday and sunday nights.

  • i grew up on a farm, and it wasn't even possible for anyone out there to get cable. we just had the network stations (ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, PBS). my parents now have DirectTV and have about a gazillion stations. no fair.
  • Me too.  Well, we had cable when I was little but when my mom married my step-dad when I was 7ish they got rid of it.  We had basic cable (fox, nbc, etc.)  To save money last year when things were tight I told DH we could get rid of the cable and he kept trying to play it off like I needed it.  I've done w/out it I can again.  There really is nothing on, which is pathetic given how many channels we have!
  • DH and I finally gave in and just got basic cable. Whenever we stay at a friend's house I stay up late in my guest room flipping through all the channels because I'm so amazed!
