Breastfeeding

too much iron?

I have been breastfeeding my DS for the last 6 weeks. However, I got back on the Pill and now I can not keep my supply up. I have been using breastmilk that I froze, but I am running out.

I would like to start supplementing with formula. However, the formula that I have found that's close to breastmilk contains iron. My DS takes Poly-vi-sol  with iron in it.

Do you think that it would be too much iron for him? Or is it ok to give him the formula that contains iron and the iron supplement (vitamin)?

Anyone else have this issue?

Re: too much iron?

  • If he starts formula with iron he won't need the supplement anymore most likely....I'd ask your pedi though since he was a preemie, he may need more iron than a full term baby (which is probably why you are giving it in the first place, right?)
