Hospital/OBGYN, CT shoreline

Hi,

I'm looking to change docs because my doc is an hour away from me as is St. Francis where he is out of.  I've not heard too much about L&M and Backus and wanted to know if any of you reccommend either?  Or an OBGYN.  I would also consider Yale if that is better.

Appreciate your help!

Re: Hospital/OBGYN, CT shoreline

  • I delivered at Yale, twice, and was very happy with my experience there. I also really like my practice (mostly midwives).

My DS was delivered by Pam Townsend (midwife) and Natalie Adsuar (OB). They have offices in NH, Cheshire, Branford and Madison.

  • I'm delivering at Yale too....my OB has offices in Clinton, Branford, Wallingford & New Haven (County OBGYN)  There is 1 midwife on staff - but 8 docs so scheduling appts are pretty easy

  • I delivered at Yale and will deliver #2 there.  I used a group of midwives/doctors and highly recommend them.  I've helped out at a few of my friends' l&ds and they have always loved the midwives/doctors in the practice.

Feel free to PM me and I'll give you their names/numbers/website.

  • L&M!! I had a greaaat experience there! Nurses were great, rooms were comfy. I had a very good experiance.

I'm not sure about Backus's L&D, but my mom has worked at L&M for 10+ years so we are just more familiar and satisfied with the hospital as a whole. But with that said, I haven't heard anything bad about Backus.

And if god forbid you need the NICU, the nurses on that floor were great too. My daughter was only there one night for observation, so I'm not sure how elaborate there NICU services are.. But the staff was great!

As far as doctors, I used Thameside OBGYN. I had a great experiance then too. The receptionist knew me by name by the end of my pregnancy, and they listened to my concerns. Dr. Schrempf was my FAVE and delivered my daughter. He was awesome. And I had a 2 vessel umbilical cord so I had to consult with Yale doctors. Being a young first time mom, it was scary but Dr. S explained every soo well. I lovedd that office and would highly recommend them.

Hope that helps! And PM me if you have any more questions!

  • Same here.  Dr. Fletcher/Pam Townshend.  Will be delivering at Yale, although I prefer St. Raphael's.
  • Hello- I am a local Birth Doula- I have worked with many of the groups but my abosolute favorites are Shoreline OBGYN in Newlondon, DR. Watson who has a Midwife working directly with him and also Maureen Davis CNM who is in Norwich with the group who practices with their office at the hospital.
  • I'm in southeastern CT and go to Thames-side OBGYN- I really like them so far; my doctor is Trisha Jacobsen but everyone else there seems really helpful too.  Will be delivering at L&M because my husband works there so everything is FREE!

My sister-in-law also delivered at L&M and had a good experience.  Haven't heard anything (good or bad) about Backus.

I had a GREAT experience with Thameside.. Now that I'm not going for OB appointments, they have been hard to make appointments with, but I had zero complaints throughout the pregnancy. And I actuallly wasn't a fan of Dr. Jacobsen.. Dr Schrempf was my fave!

  • this is my third pregnancy..first 2 where at yhale and loved them. but i moved to new london ct a while ago and will be using L&M hospital and shoreline OBGYN. I love them and i have heard wonderful things about L&M and my future mother in law has wirked for L&M for many years!!!!
  • Hello!

My name is Nicole. I saw your post and thought you might be a good person to ask. I was planning to give birth in a Private Birthing Center in Washington DC owned and operated by certified nurse midwives. My husband and I may be moving to the eastern ct area before the baby comes (Dec 1, 2010). I really dont want to have a traditional hospital birth- I want a natural experience where I can follow the Bradley Method and labor at my own pace. Where would you recommend I look into? I am willing to travel to have the birthing experience I want.

Thank you for your help I greatly appreciate it!
