I'm not sure if anyone cares but I posted a couple times looking for advice on a potential new job and I thought I would update. I don't know how to link original posts, lol but basically, I was not currently looking for a job as I'm pg and due in November. I have a great full time, corporate job with great benefits but I didn't want to come back here after the baby was born (but I have to work). Last November I interviewed for a small non-profit place that offered me a part time job - it was too few hours (I wanted 30-ish) and not enough pay so I turned it down. I decided to be happy I had a job in the first place and then got pg so never considered leaving here...then, the small non-profit called me out of the blue 3 weeks ago and turned my world upside down...they said they have a different position, 30 hours, basically matching my current pay and REALLY want me...I went in for the interview, they offered me the job...I told them I'm expecting, thinking they would let me have 6 weeks off (unpaid) and that I would not be ok with that but they surprised me and said 12 weeks off (unpaid) would work for them as long as I worked my butt off between when I start and when the baby is born (I will). But...then, they didn't offer any paid vacation - I will be working 5 days a week 6 hours a day...currently I have 5 weeks of PTO and 13 paid holidays...that's a lot to give up. Anyway, I told the director I wanted to wait until after my OB appointment yesterday before making any decisions but in the mean time she was going to look into making an exception for paid vacation...
Whew, sorry, if you are still reading, thanks!! LOL
My appt yesterday went great, my OB said to take the new job ( I know he can't guarantee it but I wanted to know if he even remotely thought I would have to go off work before the baby - as I will not have any disability pay or job protection). So, I called the director today and said I wanted to further discuss the vacation pay, gave her a back ground of what I get now and she said "so, if we can come to an agreement about paid vacation you'll take the job" and I said "yes!" At this point, my H and I have discussed it and decided that the hours and flexibility and fact that you can still take vacation (it's just unpaid) are worth it and I will still take the job...but I want to see if I can get something for vacation time.
So...looks like things are falling into place. I had no idea what I was going to do after this baby came along, but my current schedule was not going to work. EEKS, I'm excited and anxious. I haven't given notice to an employer in years...my last two jobs were downsized so I, along with all the other people I worked with were let go.
Thanks for reading ![]()
