Poopsplosions...WTF??

For the past 2 weeks Kieran has had some seriously bad poopsplosions.  They're going right up his back almost to his armpits.  Every time I have to shower him off because it's everywhere.

I don't know what's causing them....this has never happened before.  He's in size 3 diapers which are for 16-28 lbs and he's just about 17 lbs.  He's been in them for quite a while and hasn't had any issues until recently.

They're done up tight enough and not folded down in the back or anything and they're pretty solid poops, so it's not even like they're liquidy ones.

I don't get it...any ideas? Suggestions (other than going up a size in diapers...he'd swim in a size 4!)?

    What kind of diapers are you using? DS always has huge poops but the elastic in the back of the huggies always keeps it very well contained!!

    He's in Pampers...maybe I'll buy a small pack of Huggies and try them out for a week to see if anything changes.

    that was one of my biggest beefs with pampers, that there was nothing in the back to keep it snug. i love the elastic that huggies has back there. we haven't had any poop splosions since switching

    I just moved my 18lb, 9oz'er to size 4s.  The 3's looked tight on him and the size 4's start at 22lb. Lesson learned from DS1 - when the diaper looks tight and/or they are a few pounds from the next size up I switch to the bigger diaper.  It has really helped in keeping down the blowouts.

    This is why I switched from Pampers to Huggies.  That little bit of elastic has saved us from extra laundry/baths.
