I need SP how-to help

My dilemma is that some days DD just wants to cry and cry and cry and I cannot find time to get ready for the day.  She hates her swing/bouncer/floor playground thingy - all of it.  On those days that she just wants to be held, how do you get ready??  They are usually days that we have a doctors appt. or have to be somewhere at a specific time.  I hate just setting her down to cry for a few minutes but sometimes I think that might be the only option.  How did you deal with this?

  • I just have to let DD cry in her crib for a couple minutes and get ready as quick as I can. This is why my hair is never done, I rarely wear makeup anymore, and I always get to where I'm going at the last minute. As long as you make sure she's been fed and has a dry diaper on it's okay to let her fuss while you get things done sometimes.

Your other option would be to get up earlier while she's still sleeping to get some things done, and make sure her diaper bag is packed the night before etc.

  • Yeah.  I try to get showered while she is still asleep but she usually wakes up as soon as I'm done and I have no time to get ready otherwise.  I always her her diaper bag packed at night and usually do "around the house" stuff when she falls asleep at night so I don't have to wake up earlier than planned.  It's just the putting clothes on/throwing hair into a messy bun thing that I'm having trouble with.  Haha. And when I start working again in a few weeks, OMGosh I don't know how I'm going accomplish actually "looking good" to leave the house.
  • Maybe try some kind of carrier/wrap or put some music or the television on, just something to distract. What kind of swing do you have? DD loved her swing, but at that age she liked the setting that went side to side.

Good luck, I would love to tell you that it gets "easier", but I am not sure if it does. Now DD "brushes her teeth" while I shower. She has to pull the curtain back at least 4 times to show me and I get out to a huge water mess, but at least I get to shower...lol

  • The swing was my lifesaver....also if you have a Moby wrap or something similar you could "wear" her while you get ready.  I would try to do as much as you can at night and then get up earlier than her to try to at least squeeze the shower in.

  • Good Idea.  Next time she is fussy I'm going to put her in the Baby Bjorn and see how that works.  Music and Vibrations don't help her out either.  Sometimes she likes them and other times she could care less. haha. Putting her in front of a mirror worked for one sitting and then she decided she didn't like the baby she was looking at.  haha.
