Snarky and T-TTC

so i already posted this on FB, but

i'm really torn about what phone to get.  i got a free iPod touch when i bought my new macbook, and i loooove it.  but i can only get on it when there is free WiFi, which is very frustrating.

right now i'm on MTM with verizon, and a lot of people are saying droid.  but i reeeaaally want an iPhone, and i'm getting conflicting opinions about AT&T service.  i mean, i know it isn't as good as verizon, but how bad can it be?

thoughts?

  • We have iphones and we looove them!  We run into the occasional dead zone or dropped call, but it doesn't happen often.

We've never had to deal with AT&T customer service, so I can't speak to that, but Apple's Customer Service is awesome!  I was having trouble with my phone a few months ago so I took it to the Apple store and due to the problem, they just gave me a new phone.  No hassle!

  • I have never been on Verizon so it's hard to compare, ATT isn't horrible. I love my iphone so I can deal. I can't really see using anything else, but I use a Mac at home and work and everything else feels clunky and counterintuitive.

AT&T blows IMO. horrible service & horrible customer service- not to mention the big personal info leak they just had. oy.

i love Verizon- i've had them for almost 10 years & i've never had an issue- the hubs has the Droid (and my CW just got the brand new one) and it's really nice.

it's thin & not clunky at all & it works wicked smooth. it's VERY comp. to the iPhone- just a hell of a lot cheaper.

i must admit- the aesthetics of the iPhone make me drool- but going to AT&T just isn't worth it.

  • Coverage is going to depend on the area. In Mpls AT&T is terrible. Not just data coverage but dropped calls. H has a droid and really likes it.  I would ask around people you know and see if there is coverage issues.
  • I have had no problems with my AT&T service and we've had it for years. If you want the iphone I say go for it! It's a 2 year contract. If it sucks that bad you can always switch back after the contracts up, but chances are you will love the phone and be glad you switched.

see i have 3 people that all live within 15 miles of each other.  1 has had AT&T since 2004 and says she's never had a problem.  another says she drops calls daily just sitting in her living room.  the 3rd says that it isn't the best, but having the iPhone makes it worth it.

  • I'm in PR, so, my experience is different.

We've had iPhones since the very first one.

We were on Verizon when we got our first iPhone and we HATED it. We had HORRIBLE customer service and we had to dispute charges at least three times. It just got worse and worse.

In the beginning, our iPhone was on the prepaid plan, since, well, iPhones were not available in PR yet... We loved it SOOO much...

By the time the iPhones made it to PR, we switched to AT&T completely. By this time, Verizon had been bought out by "Claro" here and their service was getting even worse. So, we payed the cancellation fee and never looked back. I didn't regret it ONE bit.

We've had two iPhones ever since the 3G came out. We have NO problems with cell service or data here. As a matter of fact, whenever we've had issues we've been more than pleased with the way issues were handled by Customer Service...

So, all in all, everyone's experiences just seem to be different.

For us, it was the best decision ever. We've never had problems with our bills and we have phones that we are absolutely in love with.

And, yes, my husband will be getting the iPhone 4 on June 24. :)

  • I've heard great things about the Droid. As much as I want an iPhone, I can't argue with DH's refusal to drop Verizon. We both left AT&T for Verizon 9 years ago and haven't complained once.

I have an iphone and love it. But the second someone else carriers it I am leaving AT&T. The dropped calls are really annoying.

  • (it's 10yearstogether here)

I would say hold tight on getting an iphone for now.  I'm in your boat, I want one, but am with Verizon.  Have you seen the cheap upgrades and early upgrades that ATT is offering their customers that would lock them into a new contract?  Couple that with the fact that their early termination fee went up to $300+.  Methinks that is a sign that they are trying to preempt the flood of users ditching ATT to go to Verizon if/when Verizon gets the iphone.

That is my theory anyway.  ATT coverage sucksballs in my area and I don't hear great things about their service, so I'm sticking it out with Verizon for now.

  • DROID, seriously though what do you think an iphone has that a Driod doesn't? I have the older Driod with a qwerty keyboard(and a screentouch) and H has the newer one that's sleeker with just a screen touch keyboard. Both are nice

  • i've said before that if i had to choose between DH and my iPhone, I'd take the iPhone.  I love it and so badly want the new one coming out later this month.  DH has had some trouble with his (but he drops it a lot) but I haven't had any complaints with it or AT&T at all.
