I am 11 weeks along. I am happy with my doctor, but they only at Hopkins. I have heard mixed reviews. I would really like to stay with my doctor. Anyone have any input? Thanks!
I have a co worker that delivered there two and half years ago. I just know because it is a teaching hospital, she had so many medical professionals in the room at any given time. She said at first it was intimidating and humiliating with her lady parts on display for so many people, but she had a very long labor and she said she eventually did not care. Sorry, I can ask her more about her experience next week...she's on vacation right now.
I delivered at bayview and had a good experience. As far as the teaching hospital thing you can request not to have all those people in there. A resident actually delivered dd with assistance from the attending doc- it was a very busy evening in l&d so everybody was spread thin. My nurse had a male student helping her and I just said I wasn't comfortable with him on the room and never saw him again. In my defense though, he was kinda weird, even dh thought so.
My coworker delivered there last August, she ended up with a C-section but still speaks very highly of her experience there. My advice is if you are happy with your doctor, stick with him!
If/when I get PG again, I will be at Hopkins, so please keep us posted on what you decide.
Good luck!

I delivered at Hopkins and will be again shortly. I was happy with my experience, even though it was an induction. And you do have a choice to allow students in your room. For me, I didn't mind. You have to be okay with your dr not delivering you, at Hopkins, you get the on-call, it may be your doctor, but the chances are slim. I am trying for a med-free birth this time and Hopkins really isn't the place for it. They are very by the book and old school, and don't let the fact that they call themselves a "birthing center" fool you. I am still going to go for it, even with my limited options. The other con with Hopkins is that their L&D and Post Partum rooms are outdated. Good luck!
Thanks for the input, ladies. I can deliver at the main Hopkins hospital or Bayview. My friends are all saying Mercy or GBMC.... but I already tried to switch doctors and had a bad experience. I am just so confused. I do not want to switch again.... How do Bayview and the main Hopkins hospital compare?
