Northside Hospital - Forsyth/Cumming

Hi girls!

I'm new to the board, and my husband and I live in Jefferson right now but are going to be moving to Buford in the next few months.  I was wondering if any of you have delivered or are delivering at the Northside Hospital in Cumming?  I've heard that it's brand new and really nice.  Anybody else been there and can share their experiences?  I am planning to deliver there in october, and would just like some feedback.  Thanks!

Re: Northside Hospital - Forsyth/Cumming

  • I didn't get to deliver there (they opened right around when I delivered, and my midwife is at Northside Atlanta), but quite a few of my friends have delivered at Forsyth and had wonderful experiences!  I will definitely consider it if we have a third, it's so close to home for us, and I really felt like a number last time at the big hospital.

Thank you!  This helps a lot!

  • I delivered there in October 2009 and loved it! This was my second child that I delivered there. Everyone was really, really nice. It is small hospital but with all the perks of a bigger one. HUGE delivery rooms (1 1/2 times the size of the huge one that I delivered by son in 2007 at Dekalb Medical). Easy layout to hospital. Parking right outside. Easy check -in process. If you end up with a kid in the NICU (we had one there for 4 days for jaundice due to ABO blood incompabaility - if you and your husband have different blood types, not the positive or negative but the blood types, and your child ends up with a different type than yours then they can have jaundice) then they are nice there too. There is a special room you can use a parent of NICU child that that has a shower in it, play area for young children, tv, sofa, small kitchen with fridge, that you can use after you are discharged - very nice. My husband stayed with daughter in the NICU after I was discharged so I could rest at night and he was able to shower here, we ate there, etc. Wonderful experience. Everyone very nice. Baby and Mother have the same nurse if baby is in the room (when had son we had different nurses so that meant twice as many interruptions at night and throughout the day). Lacation consultants also much better here. Pumps already in room, etc. Pretty big mother and baby room, at least the one I had. NICU rooms also nice. Meals excellent. Things explained well to us by doctors (NICU) and nurses. Check out time is also 11:59 pm on the day of checkout so you can stay as long as you and get as many meals and all your meds for the day - I stayed until then since I was leaving baby in the hospital. Where I delivered my son there was checkout at 11 am which means I went home less than 48 hours after he was born since I delivered him at 6:03 pm. Let me know if you want any other information.
  • Congratulations on your pregnancy! My family all lives in Jefferson and we're there frequently (we'll be there again this weekend for Mother's Day).We live in Cumming but I delivered before they opened Northside/Forsyth. I have heard it's very nice and since it's smaller than Northside Perimeter, you get more individualized attention from the nursing staff, etc.

I didn't know this! I'm so jealous! We were in the NICU at Northside Perimeter for weeks and there was nothing like this there. It would have made that whole experience SO MUCH BETTER.

  • I am delivering there...hopefully! I was actually there last night! I fell in my kitchen and had to go get monitered to make sure everything was ok. The nurses were so nice and the place was very clean and nice! It was a huge change from when I was in the hospital with my daughter at Kennestone.

  • yes!!!  I delivered my 2nd child there in Feb.  My 1st was at Northside ATL.  This is hands down the best hospital EVER!  Staff is awesome.  Rooms are nice and big.  Food is good.    Parking is free.  I had a C section.  So the surgical rooms and recovery for both pregnancies were different.  1st one was emergency and 2nd one was planned.  With the 1st it was lots of people rushing around and in recovery they had to put people in the halls.  Took me over 2 hours to get back to my room because they didn't have enough staff to take us back up.  This time I didn't go in on my planned C section date because my water broke.  I was in so much pain and had so many nurses working on me.  I found out that I was the only one there.  I was all by myself in recovery and was back up to my room in 45 mins!

Now here is the only downfall that I learned on my C section.  The dr's there do a rotation on practices not your practices doing rounds on their dr's.  So I had this woman I have never met before from a different practice do my surgery.  She was great but what was the point for me to see all those dr's at my practice if that wasn't there night for rounds there?  Nobody ever told me that.

  • I delivered there last April and it was awesome. The birth room was huge, everyone was calm and treated us very well. I didnt BF so the nurses had no problem letting me put LO in the nursery at night so that we could get some sleep. It was a great experience. Good luck!!!

Kennestone has a couple of these rooms too- but no kitchen area.  Such a nice thing to offer though.  I think they are mainly for short stays but it was perfect for us since Gavin only had to stay in the NICU one night longer than me.  It let me avoid the dreaded car ride home with no baby.  I was ready to sleep on the NICU floor rather than face that...

FYI- the NICU at Northside Atlanta is a higher level of care than the one at Northside Forsyth.  So Forsyth doen't offer the most intensive care.  You can probably read about the differences in Level II and Level III care on their website. or just google it.  Level III is the highest level of care.

  • I can say Ptree Womens Center was awesome. I delivered before the Forsyth Hospital was open so I ended up switching to a Dr. and hospital in Dahlonega to avoid the long drive to Atlanta. Looks like good feedback so far!?

Wow! Thank you so much for all of this information! I'm actually so excited to deliver there now. I delivered my DD at Emory Eastside Medical Center. I really liked it, but DH and I switched Insurance companies so I had to find a new Doctor. I see Dr. Jenny Jo and I could not say enough amazing things about her! Pair that with all of this great feedback, it just makes me even more excited to have this Baby! THANK YOU!!!

  • OK wow! I didn't mean to reply 3 times! Sorry! I'm on My Phone and I kept getting interrupted when I would try to post. Then when I would go back to the post it looked like it didn't post so I would "post" again - 3 times! Yeesh.
  • Hopefully this post is still being read, as I am highly interested in Northside Hospital Forsyth.  Has anyone taken a tour?  Online there are pictures of tubs with their womens center, will they allow us to labor in the tub?  Does the big Northside have a tub to labor in?
  • Yes, I took the tour, and delivered there in November, 2008.  We will be delivering there again around August 4th.  I toured Northside Atlanta and Emory Johns Creek. I think that Northside Forsyth was better than both, hands down.

The staff mostly came from the Northside Atlanta location and are very knowledgeable and caring. The place is beautiful and spacious.

They will let you labor in the shower/tub, but they do not have "birthing" tubs.  I think North Fulton Regional is the only one in the area that has the facilities for that.

We had a very positive experience and are looking forward to delivering there again.
