Hawaii Babies

Since I don't think I ever officially posted about it...

...I stopped breastfeeding three days ago. Sad

It was one of the hardest decisions I've had to make, and I cried over it so many times (both before and after I made up my mind), but it was the right one. I was hoping that I could still pump a bit and maybe give them one bottle of breastmilk a day or something, but my supply plummeted literally the day after I stopped nursing - which I guess goes to show just how on the edge it was (it took a nosedive even though I was still taking the domperidone, since it's recommended that you gradually wean off the drug even if you're no longer breastfeeding). So instead I'm focusing on the fact that my boys are happy and healthy and thriving, and remembering that there are a million other aspects of mothering that are just as - if not more - important than how I feed them.

I really want to thank all of you ladies - you've been so supportive and encouraging and helpful and I don't think I'd have stuck it out as long as I did without you guys.

  • (Mega corniness ahead, this is your warning.)

The boys are still getting exactly what they need, a mama who loves them.

And hey, the occasional curse word is just a bonus! =P

Even though it is corny - it's so true!

I'm glad you were able to come to a decision.

I couldn't have said it better.  Smile  Are you feeling better about your decision?  Do you feel calmer and more at-ease now that the BF issues are behind you?  If so, I would think the boys can sense that and will only benefit.  And you can focus your energy on the many other aspects of mothering, as you've already mentioned.

I still feel sad, but it's getting better. I do believe that I made the right decision (and that I tried everything I could before giving up) so that helps.

Thanks for the update. You tried REALLY hard and it's amazing already that you kept it up for as long as you did. I know you're making the best decision for them and I know you'll be reminded of that daily as you watch your beautiful boys grow up =)

I could not agree with you more!!

  • You did a great job giving them a good start. I think you should feel so proud of how long you did bf! You exceeded your goal after all!

  • Good for you Lisa...I am glad you made a decision that works for you and your family.  And the other girls are right...love is what you boys need and they're getting it from a mama who'd go to the ends of the earth for them.  (((HUGS)))
  • Yes Ditto what everyone else said.  And good for you for sticking it out as long as you did.  The boys are already off to a great start and will be better off for it.

I've been meaning to email you for about a week! I have the email sitting in my drafts folder but every time I try to add to it, I get pulled away by something.
