just looking to see if anyone has any tips or insight...maybe I am missing something obvious
my LO can fall asleep on his own, but we do normally rock him to sleep. rocking is part of his routine. sometimes he wants no parts of it, we lay him down awake and he goes to sleep. we just follow his lead. we also often hear him once or twice in the middle of the night and he just puts himself back to sleep.
the last 3days have been AWFUL getting him down for naps. the past 2days, he refused the afternoon nap. he was a cranky mess and ended up falling asleep super early, so he definitely still needed the nap. today I did get him to take it, but it was a struggle.
he is getting 2 new teeth, so that could be it. any insight??? (I am not against CIO it's just not really for us unless it's a last resort and I wouldn't say we are there right now)

Teething could 100% be affecting his sleep. Are you giving him anything for the pain? Motrin and teething tablets are what we use. If he is getting molars that can hurt their ears too so that I why we give Motrin before bedtime when he seems to be in pain.
My pedi has always said never do any aggressive sleep training when teething.
I am very free w/ the motrin/tylenol when he seems like he is in pain. I haven't given him any the last few days though b/c he seems fine until he gets tired! although, I guess maybe when you are trying to relax and no distractions you focus on the pain more......I don't even know if that makes sense, it sounded better before I typed it out!
It could be the teething. Would you feel comfortable giving him tylenol for the pain?
DD dropped her second nap around 11 mos. It was a little early compared to other kids, but worked for her. Maybe try delaying his first nap til later in the day and then let the 2nd one go.
Also yes - teething and developmental milestones wreak havoc on sleep schedules unfortunately! You don't want to start any sleep training when they have other issues going on, though I know that's when you're most tempted to do it.
he's actually getting the last 2 of his 8 teeth in the front (I Have no idea what the names are
)
he's been ok w/ bedtime, but if he's having the same nap issues tomorrow I will try the motrin and see if that helps him settle down
thanks for all the replies.....at least it doesn't sound like I 'broke' him by still rocking most of the time haha!
I will just wait it out and try do a better job at figuring out BEFORE naptime if he seems like he's in pain and needs motrin or tylenol!
Like PP said he may be ready to drop that am nap. My DS dropped it around 12 months. Same thing, would cry and cry and just would not sleep. We moved naptime from 10 to 12 and he started to go down easier and sleep in longer stretches.
Could be a combo of teething and dropping a nap? It's so hard to figure these little people out. Hang in there

Yup - kiddo never seems bothered by teething during the day, only when it's time for sleep. I'd bet that's what it is.

We did do sleep training and now that he is a good sleeper, when he fights naps or has short naps, etc I know there is something bothering him (teething, getting a cold, etc)
Teething sucks and that could very well be the culprit!
I hope this passes for you soon!
