2nd Time Moms

Is there anything you did during your last pregnancy that you are going to try to avoid this pregnancy?

 Mine was eating TOO much. I gained 45 pounds last time which sucked so bad for me, that I am truly committed to eating better this time in hopes of staying around 35 this time!

  • I would like to be better about drinking water. I ended up dehydrated in the last 3 weeks with very consistent contractions, so I would like to help prevent that with more water!

  • Probably watch what I eat also.  I gained the appropriate amount of weight the first time, but gained a bunch during BFing.  I haven't lost all of the excess and don't need to go crazy with food just b/c I'm PG again....

  • Um I didn't gain a lot of weight, in fact none until 22 weeks!  But I didn't exercise enough. I would like to exercise or at least take lots of walks.

    I ended up gained 50 lbs at the end due to severe pre e and swelling but thankfully lost it all and I just recently lost 12 lbs which puts me 12 lbs below my pregnancy weight with ds which is a good start!

     Go figure, I start losing weight and I end up pg! argh!!!

  • Mine is wishing away the days. I am happy and excited to meet my baby, but time passes to quickly that I am going to try and enjoy every day instead of just wishing I wasn't pregnant anymore.
  • Last time I gained too much weight.  I think it was 50-60 lbs by the end (at some point I told the nurse I didn't want to know anymore).  I was eating healthy, but too much food.  I think the problem was 1st tri because I had to eat constantly to keep from feeling sick.  And vegetables made me gag, so I ate a lot of carbs.

  • It sounds kind of weird, but I'm going to try to picture my baby as a helpless newborn.  While pregnant with DS I felt like I knew his funny personality and bonded with him a lot so it was (strangely enough) a shock to me when he came out an entirely helpless newborn.  Over the past 2.5 years that personality I felt as he was growing inside of me has emerged (and then some!), but I had a hard time reconciling my idea of him while pregnant with him as a newborn.  So with this pregnancy, I want to bond with my baby, but keep the perspective that I won't get to know that personality for many months.  Hopefully that will help!

  • I would say all of the above: eating healthy, drinking water, and exercising. But, alas, I am letting m/s dictate what I eat and drink for now!  I really want to improve my habits in 2nd tri.

  • Exercise more.  Stress less.  Complain less.  Enjoy it more.  Focus on other areas of my life for the next 9 months and just let the pregnancy happen.

    I was so obsessive with my first pregnancy over every symptom, every milestone, every development that I made myself (and the people around me) a little crazy.

  • nope. :)  Just enjoy it more, but I learned that with Max.  The second one (and third I bet) FLIES by like you can't believe.

    Me too!  I finally got back into my "good" jeans, and now I have to hang them back up.

  • Eat better and exercise more...I was so exhausted when I was pg with DS and then it was the winter so I hide inside because I hate the cold. Rocky road ice was my best friend..lol. I gained close to 60lbs and I def don't want to do that again, I finally just got down to my pre-pregnancy weight when I got my BFP and now I am doing it all over again :-)

  • I'm actually not going to avoid things... I was so sick w/ DD that I didn't really enjoy my PG and I stayed away from everything.

     

    This time, if I want a cup of coffee- I'm going to have one.  If I want to eat a bag of chips- I'll do it.

    I'm not saying that I'll do this in excess, but I want to enjoy myself this time.

  • Same as you - eating too much but I put on 70+lbs.  Also be a bit more active.

    My reply is exactly this!  I was diagnosed Hypothyroid 8 months postpartum which means my thyroid likely blew out in the middle of the second Tri, helps  to see how I gained 8lbs in one month in the third!

  • I am just going to enjoy it- but make the most of my DS being an only child.  As happy as we are to expand our family, I want to treasure the time with my boy now.
    Mom of 3 year old, one year old and one on the way (due late Summer 2013).

    Exactly this... I felt like I was counting down the days last time.  This time around I am going to enjoy being pregnant and spending time with DD while she is still an only child :-)

  • Same as you.  I gained over 50 lbs the 1st time around.
