Yesterday was my 9 week appt. I had called last week to ask them if they would be doing anything "cool" so i could let my husband know whether he should take a half day or not. They told me they would be doing a full exam and a doppler to hear the babies heartbeat. She asked me how far along i was and told me i wouldn't get an u/s until my 12 week appt which i know. So my husband took a half day and we went to to the docs. I went in first for them to do the exam and asked if i could call my husband in when they do the doppler and the nurse said "oh we aren't doing that today". i was like um what?? I was told to bring my husband because thats what would be done today. She said no and that we wouldn't hear anything anyways.
Needless to day I was a little miffed that i made my husband take time off work for nothing. So I talked to my doc about it and she said shes sorry someone told me that and that she would rather not do it but she would try. So we called Scott in and tried to hear it. It was hard to know what we were hearing. It was so jumbled and staticy sounding and the nurse said my heartbeat was extremely loud so at this point it might be overpowering the babies. So we are not sure if we heard it or not. They didn't really do much of an attempt. A few passes and then she told me they would do another one with my u/s on the 30th. So we were pretty bummed.
But my doc told me not to worry because she said in her experience most patients hear it loud and clear at 12 weeks. I still couldn't help but feel that tinge of worry even though she told me my symptoms are right on schedule and everything else looks good so far!
What are your experiences with the dopplers ladies?? thanks
Re: Bummed out!
I'm pretty sure that even 10 weeks is *really* early to be able to hear them via doppler, so I wouldn't worry.
FWIW, I asked if there was any reason for my DH to come to my 1st app't with my DS, and was told no. Turned out they did an internal u/s, so DH would have been able to see with me. Ah well. But at least your DH didn't end up missing out on anything. Stuff happens, I wouldn't let it get to you.
That stinks =/ Sorry that your hubby took the time off...
In my experience we've only ever been able to hear our LO's HB at 12+ weeks. I've heard some people can hear it earlier but I think it really depends on the individual. I'm not a big person either so there isn't much padding the baby
That's so disappointing. I'm sorry your appoint wasn't what you expected.
The good thing is that you're blessed with a sweet baby!
Just curious - Did they try the vaginal ultrasound? I ask because I too, couldn't "hear" the heartbeat at our first appointment (7w4d) but we were able to see our baby and the "flicker" of the heartbeat on the screen.
Good luck with your next appointment!
thanks ladies. that makes me feel alot better!!
i just was so afraid i was the only one not hearing it at this point!
im so looking forward to my 12 week. I cant wait!!!
I am hoping I will have photos to post
i did ask and they told me they don't do any u/s until 12 weeks
i was pretty bummed about that to. our 12 week is on june 30th and the wait is going to KILL ME!!!
