Teething??? ALREADY?!?!?!

At H's Baptism on Sunday everyone kept commenting that she "must be teething" because of how much she gnaws at her hands.  She has been pretty darn fascinated by her hands now for over a month, so I didn't think anything of these comments... until today.

All of a sudden she REFUSES to nap- I'm having flash-backs to when she was 6 weeks old (and she is normally a GREAT sleeper- STTN, and 3 naps religiously).  She literally only slept for about a total of an HOUR today.  From 9-9:30 and 11-11:30.  I'm trying to get her down for the night right now- I gave DH the monitor and told him he was on duty so I could have some me time today.  I also went and picked up the Hyland homeopathic teething tablets & homeopathic gel, along with teething toys that you can put in the fridge.  Plus, Sophie came in the mail today!!!  (Side note- I saw her for sale in BRU, also!)

If this keeps up I'm bringing her to the pedi tomorrow, but I took her temp today and it was normal and the nurse said to try the tablets first before dragging her into the office.  I'm not totally convinced it's teething- but I guess it's possible.  It's definetly SOMETHING, because this was not "my" baby today.  =(

Re: Teething??? ALREADY?!?!?!

  • Could be teething, but I think all babies gnaw on their hands and drool, which every time someone saw Alexa doing they commented that, "she must be teething." Even though she didn't get a tooth until 9 months and never showed any "typical" signs of teething at that point.

Could be anything if you ask me. Alexa STTN from 6 weeks to 4 months and then stopped altogether so it could just be a wakeful phase as far as that goes. Personally I'd hold off before giving her any gel or tablets. I have the tablets and I still have never had to give them to Alexa.

  • When I watched Baby E his first tooth came through at 4 months. It's early but possible. I feel like teething is sometimes used as a catch all with babies, but it does last for a long time! those teeth are brutal.

  • Teething is hereditary.  Check your and DH's baby book to find out when you got your first teeth.  That will give you an idea of when to possibly expect teeth.

I know were in for it early.  I got my first tooth at almost four months and Timm got his at 5 months.

  • Aww, Hugs. I think it's way worse on us than on them.E has been teething since about 3 months. She's never had a fever, so i've never given her acetaminophen yet. . The only thing that has  really worked for us was letting her suck on a frozen apple slice. You name it, we tried it, The homeopathic gel worked a couple nights. She is doing a lot better now. I'm sure Hayden will feel better soon.

  • I hope she starts feeling "better" soon.  Nathan hasn't started teething yet, so I have no advice.  He has his days where he doesn't want to nap as much as normal, but he usually goes back to his regular routine in a couple of days.
  • How old is she?  Kash started teething between 2 and 3 months. He had his first tooth by 4 months and all 4 top and all 4 bottom by 7/8 months!
