What to do in NYC?

I know this is a silly question, but I'm trying to narrow down our options...  I've only been a handful of times and we've got three free days (next wk).  Any advice welcome.  TIA!

  • You can go to a Broadway show, go to the Bronx Zoo, go to the Botanical Garden (there's one in Brooklyn and in the Bronx), walk around Central Park, go to Shakespeare in the Park (it's free but you have to wait in line all day for the tickets), have some great meals... So many things!

I just saw promises, promises and loved it.  My brother saw American Idiot and Rock  of Ages and said both were really good.  If you haven't seen Wicked, check that out.  You can get 1/2 prices tickets at the TKTS booth in times square.

The alternate locations are far less crowded.

    1. The Times Square Booth sells day-of-performance tickets only. 2. The South Street Seaport Booth sells tickets to evening performances on the day of the performance, and matinee tickets the day before. 3. The Downtown Brooklyn Booth sells tickets to evening performances on the day of the performance, and matinee tickets the day before as well tickets to Brooklyn performing arts events.

Just walking (and eating) in NYC is amazing. I could do that all day.

I would check out TimeOut NY. It is a superb resource, and if you want me to send you one, PM me.

Company. Not cheap, but effing amazing pizza.

The Tenement Museum and all sorts of LES food stops like Gus' Pickles and Russ and Daughters, Katz, Yonah Schimmel's Knishes. Highbrow art is everywhere, this is NYC specific. There are so many small museums/galleries here that are superb and unconventional. The Museum of the City of New York, or the Jewish Museum.

Dosas from the Dosa man in Washington Sq Pk.

    Coffee at Grumpy's

    mmmmm......

  • The best thing about NY is just strolling, people watching, and taking in the energy. I still do it every weekend :). I suggest getting out of the tourisy areas (Times Square, Theatre District, Midtiwn) and seeing some different neighborhoods (West Village, Upper West Side, Tribeca).

In addition to the above recommendations, we also like the Sculpture Garden at the Museum of Modern Art, which has free admission on Friday evenngs (or at least it did lat we visited).  My favorite New York activity is walking around the various areas.  Be sure to wear comfortable shoes and have lots of cash because New York prices on everything are so much more than in Chicago.
TTC since 3-08 IVF # 1 Dec 2011 BFP DD born at 31 weeks 6-24-12

    FET #1 Dec 2013 BFN

    FET # 2 Feb 2014 BFN

    No more frosties

    IVF #2. September 2014

PGD yielded 2 perfect 5d blasts

    SET November 9, 2014
