When do you exercise and get ready for the day?

I've lost all the baby weight but definitely need to tone up and exercise for stamina. I really need to institute a schedule/routine so I'm using my time effectively. I know I need to step away from the computer because it's such wasted time.

DD is still napping twice a day, but times and lengths are inconsistent. Yesterday she woke up at 5:30 and then today she woke up at 7:30. DH gets home around 7:00pm, but leaves too early for me to go running or the gym in the morning. Maybe I could go at night? Then I would shower at night.

How do you all do it? I feel like I need to do something for myself, but right now it feels so difficult to fit it in.

ETA - My gym does have a daycare and we've done it before, but if we do go she'll end up missing one of her naps. I'm fine doing that once or twice a week, but don't want to do it everyday. Plus she (and I and DH!) came down with a cold after we went last time, and I'm a little gunshy. I know she could have gotten the cold some where else, but now I'm nervous.

Re: When do you exercise and get ready for the day?

  • DS goes to my gym daycare. He wakes up at 7:30 and we usually get to the gym at 9 AM. I go 3-4 days a week.  When he took 2 naps a day I just left as soon as he woke from his 1st nap, worked out for an hour or so, then made it back for the 2nd nap.

If your DH gets home early enough I would just go in the evening. I actually like working out in the evening, but my DH doesn't get hoime until 8:30/9 most nights, so that is too late for me.

Or, you could just exercise at home during nap time.

  •   I have tried taking him out with me in the jogger and he hates it.  I exercise when ds goes to sleep then shower after.  I, however, do not feel clean in the morning even if I showered the evening before so I shower again in the morning.  DS is old enough that I can use the tv to babysit him the 20 minutes it takes me to get through the shower and dry my hair.  If I do any more "getting ready" than that he is usually right there by my feet or clinging on my leg while I do it lol.

When he was younger it was so much easier because I could put him in the bouncer/swing/pnp depending on the age and he'd be occupied for a bit there for me to shower.

  • since it's been nice out, i take DD out for a walk every evening around 7:30.  we come back, get her a bath and into bed.  then i take a shower and wind down.  sometimes i'll wait until the morning to take a shower, depending on how hot it was that day.  we just don't have the means for me to join a gym, so i do the next best thing.  :)

  • If it is an inside day for me than the minute that I lay DD#3 down for nap, I run in the living room, pop in the Jillian Michaels dvd and do a good workout.

If not that then, when I drop DD#2 off at preschool, DD#3 and I will go for a long walk/jog through all the hills by her school and do a mini workout routine at the park which includes lunges, push ups, jumping jacks.

But, I only do this 3-4 days a week. I would love to get in the habit of at least doing cardio every day and then the rest 4 -5 days a week.

  • I got at night when DH is home.  Granted, he gets home at 4:30 or so.  Then, I take a shower at night.

  • DS is on a similar schedule to yours-up between 5:30 and 7 and still naps twice a day.  I take him to the gym daycare after I get the oldest to school-around 9/9:30.  This does mess with his nap schedule-he doesn't get his first nap until 11 or 11:30.  On days we're home (mainly weekends) he naps around 9 but during the week he's able to hold out until 11ish.  We go 4-5 days a week.

DS is an incredibly laid back baby and is fine with no real nap schedule.  It doesn't seem to impact his night sleep at all.  If he was not as flexible we'd have to go to the gym in the afternoon which I don't really like to do.  I like to get it done with as early as possible.  DS is 11 months and I think he's probably got another 6 months of still needing his morning nap (if he's anything like his sisters).

Working out is very important to me.  It's my "me" time and I'm not a happy person if I don't get some sort of exercise most days of the week.

  • I shower and get ready for the day before DH leaves for work.

I have a short weight routine that I do every day, either during a nap or while LO plays next to me.

We walk a ton during the day, but I try to get on the treadmill 4ish/nights per week after DH is home.

  • A few days a week I go to the gym after dinner while DH watches the girls.  Other days I do a DVD workout sometime between breakfast and lunch while they just play or watch TV in another room.

  • I take the boys to the gym with me 3 days a week. It's only an hour or hour and a half that I'm working out so I don't feel too bad about it. Now with 2 different nap schedules I fit it in between my little one's morning nap and my older one's afternoon nap MWF. then I take both in the jogging stroller for a jog on either T or Th and then I jog both Sat and Sun when DH is here so that I get 6 days a week in. Do you feel comfortable taking LO to gym daycare? I know I was against it since it was daycare, but then realized that 3 hours a week is not bad.
  • Most people wouldn't do what I do, but I was a very early riser and a 5am gym rat before babies, so this isn't too far of a stretch. I get up around 4 and go outside for a run anywhere between 4:30 and 5.  I make sure I'm back by 5:30 to set up for the morning.  DD usually starts makeing noise around then.  DH recently started very physical work and his body is exhausted, so I try to let him sleep as late as possible in the morning.  He gets home around 5:30/6, but we're moving and he's usually working on the new house or he's just plain physically exhausted.  Not that I'm not, but it's a lot to throw two toddlers his way and just leave.  The babies nap in the morning for at least a half hour (around 8), so I do floor exercises and weights for about a 1/2 hour during that time and then shower.  Some days I just take the babies for an hour long walk during the morning nap.
