Charting question - O'ing late in cycle

My brother and SIL have been off BCP for 5 years with no dice.  SIL started charting 4 months ago (finally!) and will be meeting with an RE in 2 months, because their insurance will finally cover IF treatments.

She O's on day 22 like clockwork, and gets AF on 27/28.  I had different challenges and have no idea what that means, so can any of you ladies speak to this?  It seems awfully late.  Could this be one of the reasons they've had trouble?  What can they do about this?

 Thanks!

Re: Charting question - O'ing late in cycle

  • I would bet money on that being their problem. That is a REALLY short LP, so I'm guessing she has luteal phase defect. They'll probably test her progesterone levels at 7 dpo, and I'm guessing will find that it's low. They'll give her a rx and it should lengthen her LP.

  • I O late, too.

My suggestion would be that she take progesterone supplements. Her AF is coming to early in her LP for an embryo to implant before AF comes. The progesterone will help make her LP longer and hopefully give an embryo time to implant. I would have her ask her OB about it ASAP. I started prog supps 3Xs a day from 3DPO to 14 weeks with my third pregnancy. I also O'd around CD 22-24. GL to her! Hopefully it is an easy fix!

  • oh wow that is a short LP for sure! i sometimes o late in my cycles-- anywhwere between day 17 and day 23. when i got pg with dd it was day 22.  i also had an LP on the shorter side. mine was just about 10 days or so.  taking extra b6 has really worked for some people and royal jelly is good for fertility as well. however i agree with pp that that short of an LP would most likely be the issue for sure!  GL to them!

  • I O late as well, usually on day 19 or 20, but I also have a long cycle. Either B6 or B12 can help lengthen a cycle, I can't remember which, but I think it's in TCOYF. She may want to try taking that for a few months and see if she adds a little more time onto her cycle. With that short of a cycle, implantation may not be having enough time to stick.

  • I think like others said the problem isn't the late Oing, it's more the very short LP.  I O'ed on CD33 or 34 with DS and I think he was still a pretty good egg :).  But her LP seems very short.  I think progesterone supplements would help or as PP mentioned the B6 might help too.
  • I had a LP on the shorter side, and B6 did nothing for me. I really think she needs to bring this up with the RE.
