Sending oatmeal (or cereal) to DCP

For those of you sending oatmeal (or rice cereal) to your DCP's, are you mixing it for them? Or are you sending the dry stuff with something to mix (BM or formula)? Or are do you just give them a box to keep there and send extra BM or formula each day to mix it with?

Re: Sending oatmeal (or cereal) to DCP

  • I'll be sending a box and have them mix it with a little formula.  (Unless I can up my supply a bit and have some extra BM to play with.)

  • Hmmm I have been pondering the same thing.  Interested to hear the responses.
  • We have only been doing 1 feeding in the evening so far, but will be starting to send cereal soon. I'm thinking I will send a box of cereal and the DCP will mix some extra formula to add to it. She keeps a can of our formula at her house, so she'll have what she needs to do it.

  • Our DCP provides the cereal so they just mix it with formula.

  • My daycare has the cereal there. I send her with 28 oz of formula a day (it's about 8 ounces too much, but I like to be prepared in case I get stuck at work/in traffic, etc).

I usually made it "by look" at home (Ok, this much cereal, this much formula....add a little more formula.....a little more...OK, good.) but I started measuring. I had them start with 2 tablespoons of oatmeal to 1 oz of formula. Then, when they upped her oatmeal intake they already knew the consistancy she liked.

I also bring food for her and tell them "Mix it with 1 tablespoon of cereal" and I make sure to mix it the exact same way at home so she likes what she's getting.

This is a test. This is only a test.
  • I send a box of cereal with her and they mix it there. I bought a box that looks like a orange juice carton with a scew on lid so I made sure that is was sealed up good a school. (beachnut) I was afraid that they wouldn't get the pour spout closed good if they were in a hurry.

    Do you BF?

If not, I've found that an old formula canister and scoop work awesome for storing the cereal. And one scoop is approximately 1 tablespoon.  Smile

  • My MIL watches DS during the day for us.  In the beginning i used to measure out the cereal into a bottle for her and give her a seperate bottle filled with 1oz of BM so she can mix together in a bowel for him.  Now she knows the way he likes it and I no longer need to measure.

  • I send it dry in a glass pyrex thing with a lid (i'm a little anti plastic) and send about 1oz extra breastmilk for it.
