DS hates swings. He cries every time I even try to put him in one in the park. He always has, even his baby swing. I think he used it twice without crying. I really have no idea why (maybe motion sickness, although I doubt it because he never gets sick in the car, even RF for 26 months), but I certainly don't push it or think it's a big deal. It's always made it hard to go to the park for playdates, but at least he likes the slide now, the sandbox, and some of the smaller climbing things. But people keep telling me that something is wrong with the fact he hates swings. Especially my MIL, who was pratically outraged the other day at the park with us. "Have you even TRIED to push him in one?"; "All kids like swings!," etc. Seriously, will he be scarred for life if he turns 3 and isn't some swing expert? I highly doubt it.
Sorry for the random vent, but I'm tired of getting questioned about this. It's just odd.
Re: Keep getting crap about swings
Tell your MIL to screw off. The kid doesn't like swings, it's not the end of the World...and I am sure there's nothing wrong with him!! I really don't think it's something you should push. I'm sure that would make things worse.
I did have to giggle because this made me think of the Friends episode where Rachel was afraid of swings.
I had forgotten about this! LOL.

My DD is the same way -- not with her baby swing, but definitely any park swings. She has never liked them. I try different ones every once in awhile to see if she's gotten over it, but she still gets scared.
So "all kids" don't like swings.
And I agree that it's a silly thing for people to make an issue of!
