1st Trimester

Intro and beta ? - twins?

Hi!  I've been a little nervous to post before this, but I went for an ultrasound today and at 6 weeks (just about) saw a sac and a fetal pole!  Yay!!  This is my third pregnancy - I have a beautiful 4 year old daughter and had an ectopic pregnancy almost one year to the week ago (hence the nerves!).  I know we're not completely out of the woods yet, but I also know that worrying doesn't get you anywhere!

My question is this.  Last Wednesday my beta level was at 900.  This Monday it was at 10,000!!  Please check my math, but if it doubled twice, it would put my levels at 3600.  Where did 10,000 come from?  Twins?  We only saw one sac and one pole today...  hmmm...

Wishing everyone a happy and healthy day!

Lis

  • high betas don't necessarily =twins...my numbers quadrupled and just one little bean in there Big Smile

if the US showed one sac and one pole..I would say no twins

  • The doubling is that they need to at least double in 48-72 hours.  Many women find they increase quickly early and then it slows down after about 10-15,000.

  • I am having twins and my HCG levels were never out of the singelton range.  My progesterone was super high, but everything else was normal.  When I went for my first u/s at 6 weeks they clearly saw 2 sacs and 2 heartbeats.  Big Smile
