The Baby Einstein alphabet books. (it's a whole box of books with one mini book for each letter. Alex only knows 12 words so far but thanks to the "O" book, he can now say octopus and owl!)
i was just at barnes and noble and found a few cute one in the "bargains" area - they are counting ones with raised things on them that dd can count and touch - "ten tiny fairies" and "ten rubber duckies". we also picked up the very hungry caterpillar, wheels on the bus, and 5 little monkeys. got em all on sale. her other favs are "counting kisses", "brown bear brown bear".
My daughter is obesessed with books and she loves- "Go Dogs Go", "Green Eggs and Ham" and "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie." She even sleeps with them at night.
She loves the Llama Llama books. We just got the new one, Roly Poly Pangolin (same author: Anna Dewdney).
Others we like right now; How to Catch a Star, Giraffes Can't Dance, Blueberries for Sal, A Bargain for Frances, the Madeline books, Where the Wild Things Are, Alexander Who Used to be Rich Last Sunday, Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good Very Bad Day, Corduroy, the Frog and Toad books, Guess How Much I Love You, You're All my Favorites and When I'm Big.
We also have a ton of the big Disney collection books, and the Disney book club and Dr. Suess book club books. We also have all the Berenstain Bears and Amelia Bedelia books a couple collections of Curious George, Care Bears, My Little Pony, etc.

Byron Barton books - Men at Work and Trucks are his favorite, also likes Boats and Planes. Got them on Amazon. Simple clean illustration and just enough words on the page.
Dog - Matthew VanFleet. He also likes Tails and Cats. Great popup, but we have to keep it up unless we are with him.
First 100 Machines - Bright Baby, he likes the animals ones as well.

The Kiss Kiss book and Does a Kangaroo have a mother too? are great books. DS LOVES the repetition and whenever the Kiss Kiss book says "kiss kiss", he give me two kisses. We have read both these books so much the pages are falling out!
He's got 5 Curious Geoge books that he likes to read over and over and over again. Mr. Brown Can Moo and a set of dinosaur books- Dinosaur counting, colors, clean up their room, play with their friends.

I cannot recommend this book highly enough; great language, great pictures, great story.
