There are so many close to me and I was thinking about going to check it out. I am a mommy on one TIGHT budget. Anyone care to share a shopping experience they had there and which shop is your favorite? I live in Fridley and am very close to the Northtown, Minneapolis, Roseville and Maplewood ones. I was thinking about getting my crib there. Do they check for recalls and the such?
Re: Once Upon A Child Stores
They do check for recalls. I do not like the Roseville one. I do like the one in Andover though.
Not sure what you are planning for sleeping, but ended up cosleeping and using the pack n play for naps. Never really used our crib- for us it was waste of money.
When we took the crib down we ended up just getting a double bed for her and she sleeps in there now.
They're okay, but a lot of the stuff is still fairly expensive for the condition it's in. You might want to check into getting one of the ikea cribs or a graco lauren new instead.
For other baby gear watch for garage sales. I've been able to get the exact models I want of most gear for next to nothing.
I agree, it's pick and choose some stuff can be very overpriced.
I like craigslist, and garage sales.
I agree with the last posting about some things being overpriced. I have found some great things at ECFE sales and neighborhood garage sales. Some things still have the price tags on. The last garage sale I was at there was a crib and changing set for sale....in great condition. I'd say start hitting the garage sales as it can be much easier on the pocket book. I also have a tight budget and without garage sales, I wouldn't be able to get as much.
I also joined a MOMS group and this has helped greatly because many of the moms are getting rid of things and when they find out I'm expecting they offer to sell them to me prior to thinking about a garage sale. It is a great way to network.
Good Luck!!

I also agree that some stuff is just overpriced. But with that being said, I still shop there. I just am choosy about what I get and you have to pay attention to brands and prices.
With the gear... it's not bad and it's a lot easier than craigslist. But craigslist can be cheaper and you can haggle.
I don't know what the cribs are like from OUAC, but I know that they have a very limited selection in some stores and that they do check recalls. But I got our bassinet from an OUAC, and it was pretty convenient and about the same price I would get on craigslist. But honestly... for a crib, I would check craigslist first and make sure to cross-reference the recall lists.
I would never sell stuff there, unless you just care about getting rid of it and don't care about the price you get paid. They are extremely picky and the stuff they do choose, they don't pay very well for.
Will you be finding out if you are having a boy or girl? If you are & your LO is a boy let me know as I have a lot to get rid of
but we will also be hosting a Garage sale & I will make a post about that then
