I want to buy a light weight or umbrella stroller to keep in the car when we switch Cooper to a convertible carseat, which is coming very soon now that he can sit up and is nearing the limit I can easily carry in the infant seat. I want something a little more comfortable for him than the super cheap umbrella strollers but don't want to spend a fortune or buy a giant. Tell me what to buy or what not to buy. If you have a used one in decent condition that you want to sell me, I'm considering used too.
My big boy is bounding towards 4! Baby brother coming in October!
Hipster dog is not impressed.
Re: Recommend a stroller
Just because it is uncomfortable to carry him doesn't mean you have to abandon the infant seat. Just leave it on the base in the car and use it as you would any other carseat. It is much safer than a convertible.
No recommendations for a stroller though. We just have the Chicco Trevi and a Jeep jogger. I know lots of people like Maclarens though.
We test drove the Maclaurens at BRU and hated them all. We ended up going with the Chicco Liteway. Love, love, love it. It's a one hand fold and unfold (with practice). The front wheels lock or swivel which is nice. The nicest part to me is that it reclines completely flat, which is awesome for diaper changes (also means you can use it with a newborn too.) I've never seen a stroller as easy to recline as this one either. There's one simple lever to push and it moves up and down the back of the stroller and adjusts wherever you want it. It's crazy simple.
The only two drawbacks are that it's a little bit heavier than a true umbrella stroller, but still pretty light weight. The basket is also a little on the small side but we haven't found that to be a big deal.

i have a Maclaren Quest (gray) that I am going to sell at the JBF sale at the end of the summer. i am going to list it for $75 for the sale (they retail for $220) but would sell it to a nestie for $60.
it's a great stroller. we bought it because it was super light weight for one with a reclining seat and had a good reputation as far as durability. the reason we are getting rid of it is b/c we have SEVEN strollers and i am trying to think the herd. otherwise, it's a great stroller (but you would have to call maclaren and get the hinge covers if you're worried about that. i wasn't so i never did)
If Suzi isn't interested in it I am!
this. I love our uppababy g lite. If the lux was available back when I bought it I probably would have gotten it instead. That said, DD always slumped and did fine when she needed a nap in there.
Hmmm... I had not considered the recline feature at all. My kid only sleeps on his tummy or in something like a swing or bouncy seat w/ an angle. He has never wanted to sleep flat on his back, so that is mostly a non-issue. But whoever pointed out the diaper changing potential has me reconsidering.
Rayskit, if you have another buyer for your stroller, go ahead. It's going to be awhile before I make up my mind. And we haven't even bought a convertible car seat yet so until then the stroller isn't needed.
Interesting that you say this. Mathis is a tummy sleeper, too, which is why I am selling my Quest. He will fall asleep in the BOB but usually rolls to his side but he would never fall asleep in the Quest. I replaced it with a Volo and really like it. It's super light weight and compact and handles great, like all Maclarens. I like it a lot.
The recline feature was not for napping at all. But we bought the stroller for a new orleans trip when we knew we'd be out all day. I've tried to find way too many diaper changing stations with no luck that I wasn't about to rely on park benches in NOLA. As it turns out, she did fall asleep (miracles do happen) and it was nice to lay her back.

Suzi, our Baby Jogger City Mini reclines almost all the way back. I'm not sure if C could belly sleep or not, but it goes very far. I'd have to check it out.
I love that stroller. It's not as lightweight (folded) or small as the McClaren, but it folds easily with one hand and is very easy to push. I love it.
